your poem was great but i have lived all over the world it seems to happen every where . west vergina is a beautifull place.

Richard157 replied July 22, 2009 1:12 AM Cyncyn, I was born in Roanoke, Virginia which isn't very far from the West Virginia border. I went to college at Virginia Tech and that campus is very close to WV.

I thought that that poem originated in KANSAS!! hah--The farmers around here are too busy plowing to move far, so usually if they divorce, re-marry, your head swims and swims--trying to sort folks out. Just lately our grandson remarried and his kids and her kids are related, but the couple are nOT! Go figure! It takes more brains that what I have!! ha PR, a Kansan and proud of it! --yeah-- |

I liked the poem. I am from West Virginia, born and raised and still live here. Great place to live!!! Better than alot of people give credit for. |

I would love to visit w. Virginia. When my hubby and 4 kids used to travel we mostly went to COl where we hoped it would be cooler! One time coming back home through Pratt, Ks. the bank's thermometer read 105!! Back then we did not have air conditioning--Sweat me a river of tears! Or such! haha--But I guess it is all in what you get used to, I would rather try to dodge the occassional tornado that whips through Ks., against earthquakes that they say leaves the earth trembling a lot out west--I am shaky enough! ha- But would love to visit. PR

There are great vacation spots, tourist attractions, and great people, festivals, fairs, etc. I'm a true blue WV hillbilly and proud of it!!! And, yes, for those who still say different, West Virginia IS NOT a part of Virginia. I have nothing against VA, but we are two different states!!!!!!
Pat Roth replied July 22, 2009 10:05 PM Oh, I would LOVE to come back east!! In all of our local travels (ha) we never went east, no relatives lived there, I guess. Sounds ideal, I LOVE mts, trees, water, and most states have all, even us, with our red Gyp Hills, craggy, and cedars (a farmers's curse) but attractive, and even deer galore! Yes I said ks, NOT Col, but it is beautiful too!! PR
Pat Roth replied July 22, 2009 10:13 PM I read more of these posts, you mean that someone thinks WV etc are hillbilly states?!! I had never heard that! Hmm, guess we all have our back country, without plumbn', We lived on our farm for years without an IN HOUSE, but so did most others, didn't know the diff! ha I have fond memories of stuffing carboard inside my shoes and mom cutting out the toes so I could get more wear! But it was in the dirty thirtys, and I bet most have NOT witnessed those HORRIFIC DUST CLOUDS that would rise till they blocked out the sun! mom would wet hankies for us to hold over our noses so we could breathe. then shake the dirt off of our beds before we crawled in, and if one came in the night, you could see where your head layed on your pillow! ETC--I am proud to have been able to witness the worst of those storms, BUT am also thankful that they are in the PAST!

Then a corn cob works nicely! ha Makes one appreciate Charmin! ha--When my husband complains about the texture of the toilet paper, I want to ask him if he would rather trapse out to the outhouse in the snow, and use the ADS! ha---We do get spoiled in a hurry, I guess. The one good thing about "the good old days" was the experiences that now justify the greatness of that indoor plumbn' I do so appreciate not having to pump and carry in the water and wood, used to chop railroad ties and was so proud of myself because I had the WHAM power! I wasn't too big in those days, another thing that has changed, but looking back over what I used to do, NO WONDER!! ha Have a great day! PR

SUSIE LEE DONE FELL IN LOVE,
SHE PLANNED TO MARRY JOE.
SHE WAS SO HAPPY 'BOUT IT ALL,
SHE TOLD HER PAPPY SO.
PAPPY TOLD HER, SUSIE GAL,
YOU'LL HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER.
I'D JUST AS SOON YO' MA DON'T KNOW,
BUT JOE IS YO' HALF BROTHER.
SO SUSIE PUT ASIDE HER JOE
AND PLANNED TO MARRY WILL.
BUT AFTER TELLING PAPPY THIS,
HE SAID, 'THERE'S TROUBLE STILL.'
YOU CAN'T MARRY WILL, MY GAL,
AND PLEASE DON'T TELL YO' MOTHER.
BUT WILL AND JOE, AND SEVERAL MO'
I KNOW IS YO' HALF BROTHER.
BUT MAMA KNEW AND SAID, MY CHILD,
JUST DO WHAT MAKES YO' HAPPY.
MARRY WILL OR MARRY JOE;
YOU AIN'T NO KIN TO PAPPY.
