No Med's

I was just wondering if anyone else is doing better without med's for type 2 or if its just me? since i stopped taking my meds a year ago i have lost 25 pounds and dropped my acl's by 2 points. I feel better without med's and very sick when i do take them. All I have done is changed the things I eat. I eat twice the fiber lots of veg and only diet drinks but i do not diet. If I wont sweets I eat sweets with extra fiber in them. Just wondering?

    I was diagnosed in April 2007, never been on meds., test once every day(average for 30 days) 115, last A1C 7.0, and never had test reading 180 or higher. My problem is losing weight. We've be doing a get fit program at my church, I go to the Y, walk in my neighborhood, water aerobics and chart my food intake but no weight loss. Mother and father were diabetic, my two childred were over 9 lbs and because of this doctors stated years ago that I was a prime candicate for diabetes. Do you think I was missed diagnosed? By the way I am 62 years of age.

    i am off the meds as well and am doing fine. all thoughit has only been a ouple of week fell much better also bye just doing exercise as well.

    I came off insulin and an oral (which escapes me now) 6 mos. after diagnosis. This was done with the approval of my dr.

    That was 15 yrs ago. In 2000 I weighed 190 and had a waist of 40. I weigh 160-170 for about 9 yrs now.

    A1C is down to 7.1 from 7.5 in May.

    I do it mostly through exercise. I ride from 120 miles/week up.

    My endo is talking up metformin. We'll see. Things heard here give it a mixed bag.

    On the other hand, I do take Lipitor, Lisinopril, HCTZ, Omeprezole and Terazosin. Supplements are Ca/Vit D., multivitamin and chondroitin. How do I feel? See para which describes my activity level.

    And I'm 73.

    Everyone else seems to be handling their break with dr's orders well. Just continue to monitor your BG and get an AIC regularly.

    Yep. There's more.

    My stress is on exercise. Because as I increase my activity level, I burn more C's., which means that any thing I eat is to replace whatever I've burned off in the ride.

    It also means I'm consuming lots of fluids. I am never diagnosed as being dehydrated.

    That's why I look for the activity level of respondents. Get your activity level up and by focusing on that, everything else will follow.

    Thank you my dr is not very soportive but im glad to see others go without meds and are fine. I've lost 25 pounds so far and just started doing yoga last week so far so good thanks

    I went off meds one yr ago because I'd gained back 15 lbs of the 30 I'd lost! (Insullin makes you gain weight) Dr said to keep on insullin and metformin, but I went on a supplement vanadium sulfate (Puritans Pride) and watched diet and exercise and went down to 5.9 a1C! Legs/feet got better too. Mayo Clinic dr then said keep on doing whatever you're doing! But I didn't address exercise and diet and should be taking more vanadium so current reading is 6.5. Still learning about "Type 2" and need to go back to last yrs plan. But no more meds, thanks, don't wasnt to gain back more weight!

    my doctor just keep switching me between 2 meds and both made me sick but he wouldn't give me anything else so i decided it wasn't best for me. im stuck with this doctor but i don't have to like his advice the only good thing i can say is that he did put me in nutrition classes and after that i decided i could try it my way not there's and my way has been working for me. but thank you for the advice.

    That is wonderful!
    I know in the beginning, I did not have access to a doctor and I did not have meds. So for 9 months, I too was able to drop my numbers by about 100 points on diet change and exercise. Unfortunately, for me, I needed to get my numbers down another 50 points and just couldn't seem to do it on my own. So for me, the meds took me the rest of the way. Now I am hoping that as I improve, that I will be able to eliminate some of them.

    Congratulations on finding a way without the medication, but I agree with Mary, it depends on the person and how bad their Diabetes is really. Sounds like you REALLY did a great change in diet though, something I need to work hard on and not doing so well with. But again, congrads! *HugS* Sheila

    I'm happy that you seem to be doing well. Please check in with your doctor just to be sure you haven't done any damage, if he/she is on board ggreat!

    I think it various in people and in how bad their diabeties is, how are their numbers and levels. Also, your diet makes a big difference. You should talk with your doctor about this, however. Did you go off your meds with or without his/her ok? You should never go off medication without the knowledge of your doctor.
