Pat Roth replied July 5, 2009 4:40 PM Me too, I find that the more info I read, the more secure I feel! By the way, Avera, I have wondered after reading your MANY posts and helpful input, when do YOU sleep? ha--PR
tabby9146 replied July 6, 2009 12:01 AM That's some very interesting reading. Thanks for posting this! According to him, I have pre-diabetes. My A1C is 5.6 but my doctor says full blown diabetes. I don't know what to think about what this doctor says. |

Pat Roth replied July 5, 2009 11:54 PM Hi, Kiddo! Ha, might as well enjoy being the MOM of the group! ha---It just seems that I THOUGHT that I was SAFE at MY AGE! Guess I am proof that anyone can become a victim--no, that word sounds depressing, that anyone, no matter the age, needs to not divulge so in SWEETS, no matter the reason. I am starting to do abstract paintings etc, just for the FUN of it! I bought a book on painting Abstracts, that suggested looking at a square window, then painting it round, instead of green trees, paint purple ones, etc. just opposite of what you are actually seeing! Right down my alley! ha At least it gives me something else to THINK about! hah--Thanks for your encouraging input! I am going to exhibit my 2 Abstracts this summer at our County Fair, just to see IF I MIGHT win a ribbon!! I think that that would be a LARK!! Hugs to ALL--mom, Pat |

First of all, welcome! I know what you mean about trying to accept this. Great that you are following a good diet and exercising. That will help a lot!! But in time, it will progress. But, I have known people to have diabetes 30 years or more, and are still on pills and never had to be on insulin and they have not had any major problems. So it doesn't mean you will definitely have something happen like neuropathy, heart disease, etc. not necessarily at all. No, the metformin does not have an appetite suppressant. I asked my doctor, because my appetite decreased once I was on it. I know that Byetta, the injection that isn't insulin, but a lot like Metformin, does suppress appetite some. Good luck!
Pat Roth replied July 5, 2009 11:59 PM Thank you so much for the positive input! I had been on Metformin for 2 years but only started losing weight 2 mos ago, lost 8 pounds, putting me DOWN to`214 pounds so we are not far apart---And to think that when I was in HS I was so skinny that my Dr. said that I was malnourished! Heavens, what happened??!! ha It helps to hear even the simplest things regarding diabetis, now I don't feel so hateful, resentful and "picked on!" I am NOT ALONE!! ha--PR |
AS I read the interesting and sad stories here, I notice that I SEEM to be the oldest? I am 77 years old and was diagnosed just 3 years ago. I was borderline for over 50 years though and was so sure that it would not develop any further. My parents, no siblings, did not have it, but my first cousins have it--big time, one lost both legs then died about 6 years ago, my age. Does anyone think that it is possible to really come out of this as my emotional status changes for the better, better eating habits and more exercise? I started 2 years ago on Metformin 500 mg once a day, but had to go up to Metformin 750 mg a day. Now, that isn't too bad, is it? I am still working on accepting this, I guess. I am slowly losing some weight too---is this due to the Metformin or my better coping skills? Or am I asking impossible questions---will I just have to wait and see? Just Curious, but slowly accepting diabetis. Pat Roth
