It sounds like neuropathy to me. Diabetes can damage the nerves and it can be very painful. Here are some previous discussions that might shed some light.

I agree that it sure sounds like neuropathy...ask your doctor to give you a Nerve Conductive Test...this will be a way off telling for sure! Good luck! And then MAYBE you could get some kind of medication that'll help you with this pain...I am on Lyrica and oh my...it does really help...not fully cuz I have had this for many, many years and so forth BUT...without it I am a mess! Good luck! *HugS* Sheila
Lovepo replied July 9, 2009 5:17 PM I will be seeing my doctor this month and will ask him about the test.I think my problem started with the shingles that occurred on my left foot. I thank you for the information.
jeffery innis replied August 24, 2009 6:55 PM yes im on lyica & 1 tylinol x strengh 3 times daily & it helps me quite a bit without it i would be miseribale
apanda replied August 24, 2009 7:05 PM Just wanted to add that the EMG (nerve study tests) are not always conclusive because of the size of the nerves involved, but that doesn't mean that you don't have neuropathy. I suffer from neuropathy first because of a spinal injury which secondly becomes aggravated even further by my diabetes. I take Lyrica 4 times a day and althought it does help, it does not cure it completely. Walking, when I can, does seem to help some. Also, keeping your numbers in line is more helpful. Good luck. |

nerve pain can be horrible... if it is neuropathy, there is medication that can help relieve the symptoms... for sure keeping your bg numbers in the good range is helpful... stretches help me... and good shoes... Get diabetic foot support... wear support socks/hose... but exercise daily... water walking is excellent... then soak in the warm water pool to relax your muscles... baby yourself... it matters... eat a sensible diabetic friendly menu... find joy in caring for yourself... don't treat your successes with food... find other ways to applaude yourself... a moive out with a friend... a walk in a beaufiful garden... time with a dear friend or a precious child.. sight seeing on a day trip... painting, write a poem... make something beautiful... build something... the more enthusiasm for living you can create... the less pain dominates your life... |
