Hello Everyone!
I'm sure many of you know about this already, but I didn't. I found this doing a web search and was amazed. Check it out below and tell what you think. I copied it for you.(updated by reader's help, thanks all!)
A1C NOW
"The A1CNow+®™ System offers incredibly fast quantitative A1C results (in just 5 minutes) utilizing micro-optical technology that’s integrated into a proprietary reusable monitor with single use cartridges that is lab accurate at 99%. Immediate results allow the physician face-to- face counseling with their patient which may reduce their A1C results. This incredible system utilizes a multi-use monitor that fits in the palm of your hand along with single-use cartridges to help increase efficiency and reduce medical waste."

I think that site is aimed at healthcare professionals who want to order in bulk. The regular home kit is $29.99 and includes 2 tests, $15 a test is not bad in my opinion. You should be able to pick them up at any Walgreens or order at walgreens.com. Not sure about other pharmacies but you could ask.

I wonder if health insurance would cover this?? Does anyone know?

I highly doubt insurance would cover it. My last A1c done at the lab the insurance paid $3.32 for it. I can't see them paying 5 times more just so you can do it at home.

I think you must be right. 100 tests! That's 25 to 50 years worth if you're testing every 3 to 6 months.
It must be for doctors.

I saw this on Walgreen's website also. This could reduce some insurance costs, huh? I am thinking about using this also. I wonder if physicians will encourage its use?

It's actually much cheaper to get the test done at a lab, even the mail in A1c test's are cheaper. This is purely for convenience and home use. It's also not the only non lab A1c test available, Hemocue has one that is (from what I understand) more accurate and cheaper per test. They are only available to healthcare providers though.
