It depends on the medication plus other factors. Some you can take a little late, some you should skip until the next dose.
Mom and boys replied June 18, 2009 4:43 PM Guess I really need to ask about it. The one time I did not take it I did have problems the next day. Last night I took it late, had a snack and was fine this AM! Just one more thing on the list to wonder about :)
kdroberts replied June 18, 2009 4:48 PM What medication was it?
Mom and boys replied June 18, 2009 6:04 PM glimepiride
kdroberts replied June 18, 2009 6:08 PM That's one of the ones you have to be careful about. Because of the way it works, if you break your normal routine it's very possible to go dangerously low, especially true overnight when you are unaware of things and not eating.
Mom and boys replied June 19, 2009 5:32 AM Iquestioned the Dr. as to why he gave me this specific drug, I was concerned because of weight gain and he want me to loose weight (although it was too much weight). His answer was that it is less harmful on the kidneys and with kidney issues in my family history it seems the best choice.
Ladyhawk317 replied June 28, 2009 2:40 AM I used to take the same medication as well as insulin and I had a lot of problems with low sugar during the night. I had paramedics called several times. Last time my sugar went down to 20. Doctor finally took me off and I am on Lantus insulin alone. I am in much better control. Be careful! |

Perhaps you can come up with a way to remind you of your dosages whether it be in the day time or at night. Maybe something like one of those little pill counters (box) and place it where you know you will see it to remind you to take your meds.
Mom and boys replied June 19, 2009 5:15 AM Last edited 4 months ago I do the pill box. My biggest problem is just evenings are busy. Kids are young and we have a lot of activiteis going on expecially this time of the year (summer). During June the kids swim from 5-7 which messes me up, tonight was a swim meet 5-11:30 commitment. We have had issues earlier in the summer with food and eating at the meet but tonight everything went like clock work! Sometimes life is good.
cyncyn replied June 19, 2009 11:52 AM This must of made you "proud"! You are doing such a great job! When our children can make the right decisions, without us, we are doing something right! They are the next generation, and maybe with them, some things can change, to the good!
Charish replied June 19, 2009 2:55 PM Last edited 4 months ago Like Cyndi I know this made you proud and I understand all to well about schedules that can change your normal routine. Just keep trying with those meds and your schedules okay.

Awww! That is great that your kids are learning the right eating habits from you! I am not always on time with my meds and it really don't do much difference. But what I do is with my pill case I stick it in a plastic kitchen baggy and carry that in my bag/purse when leaving no matter what cause you never know when you'll get tied up. And I take pills four times a days sooo. Something to think about. Do you carry a bag or purse??? Maybe you could make that a habit? So when you are out you can take the pill as you think of it...the right time or close. Good luck!!! *Hugs* Sheila
Mom and boys replied June 20, 2009 5:35 AM I have a little pill case on my key chain. I keep a couple of of my diabetic pills, migrain pills and advil. The problem is...just remembering. Don't they say them mind is the first to go :) |

Have you thought about setting your watch alarm, or your cell phone (I don't have a cell phone, so I go with the old-fashioned watch thing)?
Mom and boys replied June 20, 2009 5:41 AM Too funny .... I don't wear a watch I use my cell phone. But have yet to figure out all the gadgets, buttons and etc.

usually if it is close to the time to take your next dose then the doc will say to skip the dose. If you have alot of time before your next dose take it... the best advice is for you to make a note of questions to take with you to your next appt.
Pat Roth replied July 3, 2009 5:49 PM Have you accepted the fact that you NEED these meds? Are you subconsciously in denial and do NOT really wanting to bother with them, run the risk, rather like playing Russian roulet? The reason I ask is that was one of my problems, if I ignored it it would go away---it didn't! Sometimes I get SOOOO TIRED, I just do NOT want to be bothered---maybe thinking it really doesn't matter! In my case, mine isn't too difficult to manage, BUT if I skip one pill (am lucky and just take one -Metformin 750 a day) it will jump 50 to 60 points, and puts me about 160 to 190---HIGHER THAN MY DR AND I WANT! So, over and over, I am finding that skipping even just ONE pill a day, puts me in a higher bracket than what I want. Hope this helps, it gets so tiring to have to constantly THINK of PILLS, especially when your children are young and there are so many "legal" distractions! Best Wishes, and I will try too---Hugs, Pat Roth
Mom and boys replied July 5, 2009 10:06 PM OUCH!!!
Pat Roth replied July 5, 2009 10:10 PM Walking, that is GREAT! I will try too and to KNOW that I am not alone, sure does help!! Your friend, Pat Roth |
Every once in a while I will forget to take my evening pill. Usually I remember when I go to take my evening blood sugar. My question is if I am in a normal range (less than 120) with out the pill should I skip it? My guess is no. Any advice?
