Can anyone point me in the right direction to find resources for counting carbs and diabetics losing weight? I have been a diabetic for quite some time but I would like a refresher course.

Thanks!

great! congratulations… I know carb counting works… because when I'm steady… I lose weight… it's gradual, but better in the right direction… to reach goals…

One trick I use is to think of slices of bread. A slice of reg sliced bread is 15 g carbs. I try to stick to 30-45-60 carb diet. That is 30 g carbs for breakfast, 45 for lunch and 60 for dinner. That comes out to 2 slices of bread at breakfast to 4 slices of bread worth at dinner. I exchange another carb item for a slice of bread as needed. Remember to count all carbs. Last night for dinner, I had a muffing that I figured out to about 30-40 carbs, A half chicken breast that I fried, A salad which I added another 15 g carbs for the dressing. To a total of about 55 carbs for dinner. Worked out fine for me. Hope this little trick helps.

There are several books out there to help you count carbs. I too have been diabetic for some time and needed a refresher. The best book I have is "Complete Guide to Carb Counting" by the American Diabetes Association. It goes in detail through every part of carb counting. Then I have 3 books that list carb counts for foods, "The Calorie King Calorie, Fat and Carbohydrate Counter", The Complete Book of Food Counts" and Carbohydrate and Fiber Counter. The Calorie King covers many restaurants, so it is helpful if you eat out much. I sure hope this helps. I bought all of these books through Amazon, and they are listed in our online Book Club.
