Pain medication and BG readings

i take vicodin and flexeril. it does not bother my blood sugars much. but everyone is different.

Well talked to the Pain Management Doc today and all he's willing to commit to is series of epidurals. He wants me to stay on the Darvacet but take regular tylenol in between doses. He doesn't feel it's "in my best interest" to try anything else becuase of my reactions. I'll be looking into a second opinion. I'm definately not a pill junkie looking for drugs as I have turned down all types of pills that make me loopy. I have had arthritis since I was 16 and only treated with tylenol arthritis. Even after my major surgeries I only used the pain meds as a last resort and was off all pain meds within 6 weeks. Now I've got a pinched nerve from a bulging L5 and Compressed S1 in my back. My pelvis is misaligned from my last fall and the physical therapy is MURDER! I just want to go a few hours without wanting to curl into a ball in pain. I'm extremely irritated (as my whole family will tell ya) Dylan my 15yr old nephew who has come to live with us even told me today I was being a royal bitch. After being shocked that he would say that to me(he's always been so polite) I had to agree. I am so frustrated and that is making my BG's skyrocket. Thank you for the advice on the patch I'll discuss it with my PCP on Monday.

I just recently was on that patch and got off. yes, it is great relief though I personally had such a time keeping them on. after writing the company and getting special things to go over them and trying a special strong tape . But I have heard it different for people as far as that goes. Good luck though and man you are in a tough predicament with those allergies, ulgh. Love yasssssssssssss Sheila

I am really sensitive to pain meds, so morphine and codiene are not friends of mine either. When I had my gall bladder surgery last year, the only thing that worked for me was a fentanyl patch. It didn't affect my bs at all. I wore it for the five days I was in the hospital and then for ten days when I returned home. I was in massive pain, as I also had pancreatitus and a swollen liver. So the patch was a God send. The patches didn't make me loopy either, they release slowly, so your body doesn't "freak out". Good luck.

Forgot to add that the main reason I'm looking for a new pain med is that the Darvacet raises my BG's. Is there anything out there that doesn't have this effect?
