OK, seeing a 174 twenty minutes after eating some candy is a pretty high spike. I would not expect a non-diabetic to see a spike that high.
Aryana replied May 11, 2009 5:47 PM I just check my BS and it is at 93 and this is not having anything to eat since 11:23 last night which was that candy. So that was over 12 hours ago. Seems pretty low to me, but at the same time I would think it would be lower, considering when I went to bed it was 119 and this was at 4 something this morning. But maybe I could be wrong. Thanks for the response.
Aryana replied May 14, 2009 5:48 AM I just wanted to update a little bit.. Yesterday even though I hadn't eaten all that much, and had pork chops for dinner with green beans with no salt added my blood sugar was going crazy,, BTW I hardly eat at all even though I am always hungry.. I am so upset about all the weight I have gained and am worried about putting on more. I used to suffer from a eating disorder, and though I know I need to eat, I simply skip meals cause I don't want to put on anymore weight. I have gained 50 in the last three to four months

Well I couldnt sleep so I got up, got a can of coke, had found twinkies ate four of them, and long and behold.. My BS is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,21 Now I am REALLY confused..... Night all.
Dietbeeties replied May 14, 2009 12:25 PM 21 is an extremely low number!! You need to take your meter and check yourself into the emergency room, and don't leave this time! Something is going on with your body, make them listen, refuse to leave if you have to, ask them to run bloodwork and an A1C. I am worried about you girl, please keep us updated! Also, try going easy on the cokes, keep in mind Coke is what they use to clean car batteries! |

Have you ever been taught how to use the meter? Do you know how to code it? Do you wash your hands before testing? This can cause your numbers to be wrong. Having a blood sugar 80-90 should not cause symptoms of a low blood sugar. |

I would suggest getting rid of the coke and the twinkies, even if you are not diabetic the way you are (not) eating is not healthy.

Morning all,
John Crowley replied May 14, 2009 8:04 PM OK, just to be clear, 70 to 120 is the ideal blood sugar range. Your body when functioning properly is going to try to keep you in that range.

Morning all,
Someone said something about my machine and if it was matched right and all that. I looked into it, and found that the test strips were b18 and the machine was only showing b1 so I went out and got a new machine and strips and all that the one I had was one I got *free* and only got a few strips anyway.
So now, I have a machine I know is set right, the strips and machine are matched up, and so I tested before I ate anything.. I brought some candy that was high in carbs just to test the machine.
Before eating my number was 80 *Hadn't had anything but coke in three hours* After eating the candy and testing twenty minutes later my number was 174. I just tested again which makes it two and half hours and it's 120. Mind you I only had about 4 pieces of twizzlers candy.
Is this normal? For someone who is not diabetic to have a BS shot up like that and drop down with in normal range later? Guess I am still trying to figure out if the one Dr is wrong and my Family Dr is right. Thanks and have a good start to this week
