I've only been diagnosed with diabetes for 2 months but its not about the sugar as much as it is about the carbs.

It appears that your doctors didn't fully explain things to you so I will point you to a website that is great for the new diabetic:

hi i was just reading your blog and it's not the sugar you it is the carbs you have to watch because they turn into sugar to. my dr told me to do alot of walking and watch what you eat. i have had diabetes for going on 20 years now. its not a easy thing to live with but you can't let it get you do. at one point in my life i was takeing 8 shots aday but now i am on an insullin pump because the shots was not working anymore. my body has bulit up a resistence to insullin almost all the way around but being on the pump where you get insullin 24 hours aday it really helps out alot. hope this info can help you in some way i will keep you in my prayers for better health with your diabetes |

Best to have your doctor discuss this with you provide all the info you need. The same things do not apply to everyone across the board. You need individual instruction and a consultation with a nutritonist. Researching sites like the American Diabetes Association is good too. In general, what others are saying is true. Sugar is not our only enemy. Carbs are the bad guys for diabetics. You have to have some carbs, but you have to eat the right ones and you have to eat proper proportions. Good luck. |
Hello All,
I just got my first meter, and I have been checking my blood sugar. I was told by a friend who has full blown diabetes to check it after I eat, so I did. Well the first time I checked it, it was 254, and I only had a little soda with it.. Twenty minutes later it was 201. Four hours later my Dr had me check it cause something he gave me happen to cause blood sugar to go up. So after a hour of taking it, my level was 157. Well after dinner, I checked it again, and this time it was 227. I had did some reading since dinner and saw you should check it two hours after eating, and what the *normal* level are.well almost three hours later its 153 . So I have a few questions, One, is it normal for it to spike that high after eating something not loaded with sugar? And two shouldn't it be below 150 now? I did check it when I got up this morning, and before I had anything to eat or drink it was 135. That has been the lowest in the last 24 hours. Besides that one, the second lowest it the 153. I am new to all this. I had a friend get me the meter cause I was worried about my sugar levels, cause I was boarder line when I was expecting my youngest child. I was also told if I ever gain 50 lbs I would risk becoming full blown. Well thats to being on steroids for four months, I have put on almost 60 lbs. I plan on talking with my Dr but not sure when I can get it, so would like a little help. Thanks
