What's your favorite SPRING THING?

Now that the weather is turning from winter chill... what motivates you most to get into activities common to spring? I've been craving out of doors activities, more sunlight, and can't wait to get my sneakers dirty again...since my bike accident last summer, my bike has been the one thing I have missed the most... I don't own a car and just being able to hop on my bike to do a few errands was heaven... My last PT appointment is tomorrow, and my back fracture has essentially healed... they says there is always residual affects on going... but I feel strong again and will soon be in the saddle again... or on the bike seat again anyway... yeah... I haven't gone fishing in years, although I used to live near a lake and went every week. I like ocean fishing, particularly Lantern fishing... but haven't done any of that. I am going to go fishing at least once this summer. I am wondering if any of you have vacation plans, and would like to share your special interest in this discussion. Having fun is so important to maintaining optimum health... I dragged out my planters yesterday, and I'll be buying bags of soil next week for planting. I'm handy with a saw and will build a few patio planter boxes as a project with one of my friends. I will be teaching someone how to do home canning next month... and they are teaching me how to use my used, bought at a yard sell photo developing... such a deal...

Normally I would say my favorite spring thing is calving season begins full force and I love to watch the little guys out jumping and playing, however, we have a freak blizzard going on today! Yesterday it was 72 degrees and nice, today, not so much. 24 and snowing, calling for up to 40 inches in some area's, the problem is we have 60mph winds right now so there is no way to know just how much snow we actually have on the ground but its coming down so hard and blowing so fast we have some 5ft drifts already and its only been snowing for 3 hrs.
We have had to go rescue 3 calves so far from the storm and there will be more to go find later. I enjoy bottle feeding calves every now and then but times like these its just so difficult.
I still love calving season and spring going hand in hand and probably always will, I just wish THIS SPRING would come back!

I traveled through your state during the winter several years ago... I was caught in a blizzard and oh geez that was scary... I can't imagine having to go out in it to search and rescue. You must have amazing skills. Hope you are all holed up nice and warm and that the sun finds you again soon... It's still pretty cold here in Oregon too, but the trees are showing bosoms and our temps are steadily getting warmer... thanks for commenting... later... J

My faves are getting out in the greenery for jogging and bicycling -- and just wearing less clothes ;)

I hope wearing less doesn't mean "streaking" LOL

Oh my gosh, I just heard about this storm getting worse, as far as thawing and rivers. Are you going to be ok. It sounds like you are in that area, if you are I wish you well. I know that they are packing sandbags and such for thaw.
Worried about flooding. I think it is North Dakota, Terrible beging of spring.

My love is watching the flowers bloom and smelling the fresh air (unfortunately have allergies)

Spring... hmmmm in Wisconsin that could be tomorrow or in a month LOL I'm looking forward to my crocus coming up first and then tulips and daffodils. Should be in a few more weeks. Then I'm going to CA to visit my son in April, I've never seen spring in Northern CA so that will be a treat. By the time I come home, the flowers should in bloom and time for me to start my gardening prep for the summer. I'm going to get myself a bike this year and start pedaling myself to the farmers market on Saturdays with a backpack to bring home my treasures. I might have to rethink that when the summer produce is bountiful because I won't be able to carry it all... LOL But that's my favorite thing to do in summer.

Consider getting a bike trailer... I have one and love it. It is amazing what all goes into it... even my dog on occasion...I'll have to take pictures this year and share them on site... lol There is a company here in Oregon by the name of BikeFriday. You can contact them and they will ship you anything bike... their trailers are awesome...I can give you their address if you are interested.

Glad to know you are a Farmers Market/backpack gal too. Use it or lose it I say... I lost it last June when I fell off and fractured my back... lucky me it was just an interruption though! I'll be more careful this year for sure, but I'm not giving up until I don't have a choice...
thank you for joining this discussion... later.... J

My son and friends refer to me as the 'old hippy'... LOL In a loving sort of way of course.. :) I've been this way all my life and can't imagine being any different now. My oldest son lives in Northern CA almost to Oregon and he's an 'old hippy' like myself.. LOL

not a bad title, lol I did a freelance position for a company in Texas many years ago in my 'younger days', and I took my bike and back pack along with me for the six months I was there... There was no safety available for riding bikes on the streets, and once when I was out, I got blasted with oranges ( they were nice oranges and I gathered them up to take home) being throw out of a school bus windows by high school students yelling, not such nice phrases at me... When I crossed the Oregon boarder after completing that assignment, I literally stopped my car, got out and kissed the ground... lol I was young... ha ha I did make friends with my coworkers while I was in Texas and some of the gals have wrote to me to say they bought bikes, stopped wearing high heels every where and even sport a back pack on occasion... hah, imagine that... cross fertilization of behaviors and ideas...

just noticed you live in Arkansas... I was born in Arkansas. The saying is you can take the girl out of Arkansas but you can't take Arkansas out of the girl... soooo true... lol

I look forward to my son's baseball season starting. Watching his practices gives me a great opportunity to lay in the grass and read outside!

My favorite thing is to be able to get out in the warm sunny weather and take drives. I hate being cooped up all the time, or having to go out when the weather is bad.

I Love the warm sunny days. I love to go for long walks with my 8 year old daughter and my 7 year old neice. They have fun going for walks.
