Here are a few good low-carb snack ideas:
butterfly_8 replied July 5, 2008 4:46 PM I was told to be careful with carrots they are high in sugar content. Is this actually true?
John Crowley replied July 10, 2008 8:10 AM Carrots are higher than some other veggies like cucumbers or celery. But they are still pretty low in carbs.
LeighG replied July 10, 2008 9:55 PM thats how i am i walk and get a drink and ill take a few carrots when i am in the fridge just to munch on at times.
Ani replied September 10, 2008 11:41 AM Actually to be honest the yougort I go for is Fiber One it is low on sugar and it is good for you. I dont know if youknow but fiber is actually supposed to fill you up. |

Last edited about 1 year ago I like to have four crackers with peanut butter as a snack - the peanut butter gives me a little protein. As an alternative to the crackers, you might have 1/2 small apple with the peanut butter.

Low sodium sunflower seeds in the shell. These keep my mouth busy for hours with little carbs. I am a "mindless eater" and if I don't have something healthy to snack on, I will look for anything. These save my butt!

All the salad veggies you want there free,
JP replied June 13, 2008 8:26 PM Last edited about 1 year ago I bought a few Extendbars at the store tonight... I ate one now before bed, we'll see how it works for me. Didn't taste too bad either. I was surprised to see them in the health food aisle at the grocery store!! I'm the one that goes between Diabetes and Hypoglycemia all on my own.. no drugs, no insulin, just my stupid body... this could be what I've been looking for to help me. When I exercise my sugars drop 90-100 points and I'm sick of glucose tablets.... :)
Dancehawk replied June 14, 2008 9:48 AM Hugs Judy,
JP replied June 14, 2008 10:16 AM Well so far so good on the Extendbars! I had the one last night about 10:00pm and this morning got up at 6:00am and went to the Y to work out and in my haste forgot to grab something to eat first. This usually spells disaster for me with a low but today... I only dropped 7 points in 45 min of exercise!!!...usually it's 90-100 in 45 min... so I think I'll use them before exercise rather than before bed. Thanks a million for the tip!
JP replied June 20, 2008 6:35 AM Oh Extendbars, where do I begin... LOL Let me first say that they worked great for maintaining my sugars when exercising but I have to say that I won't be using them anymore. These bars contain Malitol syrup as one of the first ingredients and I apparently have a terrible sensitivity to Malitol because I can't eat sugar free candy with it in ... I should have known better. My 'innards' are incredibly cleaned out now (if you get my drift) though... LOL

LeighG replied June 22, 2008 7:38 AM thank you.i never liked string cheese before and now i eat it everyday.not so bad to eat . |

I love the flavored rice cakes. I also eat the sugar free pudding and jello cups. only 10 cal per cup. The instant sugar free jello pudding that you have to make has a lot of good flavors. I also make ice pops with crystal light drink mix. I also found no sugar added rice pudding. It's cozy shack brand. Not sure of the calories, but it is sugar free.
LeighG replied June 22, 2008 7:40 AM thank you very much for sharring with me.i sow the rice pudding the other day.thats pretty cool. |

try the trail mix by Planters. You can get them at Wal Mart and they are only 14 carbs per bag. I have been a diabetic for a little over a year and had a very hard time with it at first. Its still not easy to say the least but I look at the carb content more than the sugar. Its hard to get completely away from sugar, and since I have done the carb watching I have been able to control my diabetes somewhat easier. String cheese is good also. Always watch your carb content and the portion size on the packages. Hope this helps some for you.
LeighG replied June 23, 2008 6:31 AM thank you very much.my docter always told me from day one watch carbs and some sugars.he was very strong about me knowing how carbs are the one to watch to get yourself on track.i love my docter he keeps me going telling me all diff ways to keep my self going down the right road.he even tells me when they have the free classes at his office and they really help too.
Elfin replied July 4, 2008 8:13 AM Wow! Such a bunch of great ideas. Thanks!. I will say that I have just begun making sure to have some vinegar before my bed time snack and to make sure it contains controlled amounts of carbs, protein and a little fat. That keeps the "dawn" monster at bay (at least so far in the past 2 weeks.) I think a variety of "good" snacks is the best bet to avoid "boring" snacks which can lead to "bad" snacks.
Dawn289 replied July 10, 2008 8:53 AM Once a week my family has "Ice Cream Night". Iam the only one in my house with diabetes. I keep "lite" whipped cream in my freezer, so when everyone else is making thier sundaes, I get a couple of tablespoons of frozen "lite" whipped cream, only about 3 carbs and 25 calories. You can even find sugar free caramel and chocolate syrups if you want. It's even better with a little fresh fruit mixed in!!!! |

hello there.
Lori Dee replied September 19, 2008 11:40 AM I was diagnosed in March, 2008. The snacks that have saved me are apples, oranges, the mini Babybel light cheese rounds, a couple of large green olives, Jello sugar-free puddings (dark chocolate, YUM!), cottage cheese. I am sure I will develop more as I go, but those are my go-to snacks when I have to have something. My favorite need-chocolate-now snack is the low-fat, sugar-free snack size Peppermint Patties. Very good and not a lot of fat OR sugar. |

I like lots of fresh fruits, and plenty of water.
Anonymous replied about 15 hours ago duh! its ok to eat sugar. all the carbs you eat are going to turn to sugar anyway so dont be so paranoid. my nutritionist just told me this fact a couple of weeks ago. |
i was wondering if everyone could tell me about some good snacks to have?i already eat like the 100 cal. pack stuff and apples and peanut butter.i was just wondering about a few diff. things to put in the mix.thank you very much.
