Ladies, I know this may be a personal question, but for you who have gone through menopause, did it affect your BS much or at all? And what did you do to combat any difficulties?

I'm trying to think back, I really don't recall anything to worry about. Though at first I stopped eatting so much, later to make up for that, lol But for real it can make you gain weight if you watch it. :) Good luck Sheila

i am premeno.,have anger rages for not very good reasons, that causes my bs to raise considerable, but i am learning to reconize these mood swings, the heat flashes are the worst ,i get extremely hot when my bs drop, so i am testing more to see which it is.

Here's another question! If you have or are going throught it, did it come earlier than a woman without diabetes?

lipsie replied March 7, 2009 10:39 AM

Trying to think, it wasn't that long after really...like maybe 6 weeks...8 weeks I am not sure if that is earlier than other without Diabities though. Sheila

Hi Legs, I started as couple of yrs sgo, I am 51 now so i din't think it comes on any earier than it should. Can't stand the hot flashes....lol.

I dont think it makes any difference. I am 53 and I think it happened around 51. It has more to do with what age you started. Also they say you can have symtems 10 years before it really starts. So good luck to you and I hope this helps a little bit.

I tell ya, this helped ALOT! I've gone to my internal med p.a. and she's done tests, but says I'm not menopausal. But this has been within the last 10 years, so this explains ALOT!! Thank you doll!

lipsie replied March 11, 2009 6:54 AM

Oh, you'll definately get it sooner if you have a hysterectomy...but I doubt the fact that you are diabetic will change how/when you get it! And yes, the joys of hot flashes! Ulgh! I couldn't stand that, I am Premariam, I know that it's got some risks though but I just could not stand it otherwise! Good luck! Sheila

Got me thinking! My question would be: If pregnancy can bring on gestational diabeties (change in hermones) can menopause contribute to adult onset (type 2) change in hermones?

MeiMei replied March 19, 2009 11:38 PM

Actually it is the hormones of pregnancy that cause the body to become insulin resistant. As these hormones are deminishing during menopause I don't think so at least not to increase the chances over and above any others.

In peri menopause, yes it has made blood glucose control frustrating, I just had saliva test done for hormone levels and I am low in progesterone, which makes me estrogen dominant. I am also high in cortisol(stress horomone) which makes me close to adrenal fatigue. I am starting some supplements(magnesium, fish oil, b, d, e, c vitamins and I am going to start natural progesteron cream for 2 weeks out of the month. I hope it helps my control!
