Blindness

I have an upcoming appt to get mine checked again. I just had them checked not too long ago but once again they are acting up. Back to no glasses. Love not having to wear them but worried that this means another complication.

We should always get yearly eye exams. Keep up on mine. My father (also diabetic) was totaly blind after about age 60. had many surgery's on his eyes and don't want to end up blind if i can help it.

just an up date on my eyes i hasve had 7 laser teratments in each eye and yesterday i had my 3rd steroid shot in my left eye so a total of 3 in each eye . and yes they sound as bad as they feel. but if it keeps me seeing for even one day longer it isworth it!

This is a good topic, and so very important to all of us. I make sure I have a thorough exam each year and have done that for many years. As diabetics we really have to be so careful with our eyes. My annual exam is coming up! So far, no problems (other than cataract surgery on both eyes a couple of years ago), so hope this one goes well too.

When you have certain conditions that are being dealt with, it stands to reason you would see your doctor more frequently. For those of us just keeping watch, I've always been told the annual checkup was adequate. But we do need to watch for any signs of a problem or anything out of the ordinary and visit the doctor immediately to determine what is taking place. I hope you continue to do well with your eyes, Roger. At least you're staying on top of things and getting appropriate help.

one time a year is right and if you have any !!!! ? about what is going on with your make an apt sooner do not wate play it safe . i found i was having prob one day sitting at my desk at work went to dile phone and had to take a second look at # to see them . so i made an apt and see what i found .

Each year I visit the opthamologist who reports that there's no change in my vision EXCEPT for evidence of cataracts and some retinal damage from diabetes, but neither is bad enough to treat yet.

Roger's right…keep on top of your eye's. My best friend Amy always felt that once a year check-ups where enough and when she started having problems waited until her next scheduled appt 6 months away. She now has permanent vision loss in her left eye and is considered legally blind. Slight changes are normal as you age but if you notice a major change it's time to get into the doc ASAP. Sorry if this seems harsh but I've seen what happens when you just wait and see. Your eyes are so sensitive that just a small change can cause permanent damage. I woke up one morning and was almost blind in my left eye. I immediately went to the eye doctor who sent me to a retina specialist. I had wet age related macular deterior. (The wet means that a blood vessel broke and the blood was blocking my vision.) I had laser surgery and a series of injections in my eye. After 6 months my vision is almost the same as before. My doctor claimed he used a new laser that makes all the difference.

they use two dif on me one is stronger than the other .some times he has zaped me over 479 in one vis the last two times he has given me inj for pain after

I had only one laser treatment and suffered very little pain afterward. I know they put drops in to freeze the eye. I have 2 sisters who went blind with AMD so consider myself extremely lucky.

Another reason to make me go to the eye doctor! I said in another discussion that I had not had my eyes checked in over 10 years! I made an appointment for this week. You can never be too careful! Thanks for the information! Angie

this is me my eye DR told me i will go blind but he will do every thing to put it off for as long as he can i have had 7 laser treatments in each eye and yesterday was my 3 inj of steroid in my right eye and go back on the 19 of march to have the left one inj for the 3 time and its all helped!!!!
