Hi I can totally relate I had gestational which led to type 1 i believe...Only i went untreated for a long time w/no insurance,. finally got treated 2nd month of pregnancy.. it was so hard throughout the pregnancy!! I was in keto. 3 times and looked like that charachter princess Feona; Shrek!!!
kdroberts replied December 10, 2008 6:33 PM I don't think gestational leads to type 1 so it may be you would have been diagnosed regardless of your gestational diabetes. It's one of those chicken and the egg things because sometimes in pregnancy type 1 or type 2 is diagnosed. They don't really know for sue that in those cases if it really is gestational diabetes or or their diabetes starting to show during pregnancy.
2catty replied December 11, 2008 2:06 AM Oh I feel so happy that your baby was ok. I have 3 in total all very big babies. And on top of it toxemia. My gestational and the fact that my babies weighed more than 9lbs. led to type 2. My youngest is 3 and I feel so lucky we made it through good,
2catty replied December 11, 2008 2:08 AM I think I was diagnosed 9 years after my second child. My blood sugar was in the 500's.

2catty replied December 11, 2008 9:15 PM Do you think that you was type 1 all along? Then when you got pregnant the 2nd time Dr.'s found out you was diabetic and just summed it up as gestational? I have known of this happening. But either way I am so glad your baby and you are o.k. She is your miracle baby. I have one too. Thank you so much for sharing your story.
2catty replied December 11, 2008 9:19 PM You know as a matter of fact. My first pregnancy I took those glucose tolerance test. The Dr. said I had gestational diabetes but he thought I went out between tests and ate. Which I did not because I couldn't even drive yet. So he refused to treat me for it, just because he didn't like pregnant teen-agers. Since then I've heard other horror stories about that Dr. Nut case totally. |
I had gestational diabetes when I was a teenager. Twice as a matter of fact. I had 2 children when I was just a kid. Unfortunately it lead to the diabetes I have know. Since I had another child at a normal age. It was a rough pregnancy and delivery. 10lbs. 15oz. is what he weighed. Talking about ouch!
