sexyswamprat replied November 11, 2008 10:06 PM Last edited about 1 year ago I don't take insulin so I'm not all that up on how it works. But I am concerned about you. Have you talked to your doctor about you numbers? Don't forget, we have all had high numbers.
enigmalady777 replied November 11, 2008 10:09 PM Last edited about 1 year ago Which Novolin are you taking?
tchong replied November 14, 2008 8:38 AM well its insulin novolin its a long acting insulin so it takes a while for it to start working the doctor calls me every week to see how its doing if I should up it. so we have, now I take 25units in the morning and 20 units before dinner but this morning was the first time it was below 200 fasting.
tchong replied November 14, 2008 8:34 AM Yeah Im dealing with my doc she knows my numbers..its going down this morning it was 188 slowly by slowly its going down
enigmalady777 replied November 15, 2008 6:53 PM Sounds like it's the Novolin N which is an intermediate insulin.

enigmalady777 replied November 12, 2008 3:35 AM Thanks. They are much improved over what they were just over a month ago! patti replied November 12, 2008 2:07 PM if I am 70 - 100 I take 2 units, then 1 unit for every 15 grams of carbs. I take 20 units of Levemier at night. My diet is very different from yours...I dont eat any wheat products, anything with eggs, sugar, or nuts. And everything is fresh because of allergies to preservatives and food coloring. All of my meat is certified to be hormone free and I have to get turkey and chicken from the butcher. I cant have the additives they put in the meat. If he is starting you at nothing under 179 it is probably to see how you react to the insulin. I would keep a log of food excercise, and drinks and how much insulin for at least a week then call him/her with your numbers. Good luck to you! |

highlandcitygirl replied November 12, 2008 5:20 PM thats all the doctor said to, but its been steadily going up and i think i will need to test more. the strips cost so much! but i'll do what i have to do.
sexyswamprat replied November 12, 2008 9:47 PM Do you have insurance? My doctor wrote me a perscription for my test strips. With my insurance I pay 20$ for a box of 100. It test at least 4 times a day. Thirty minutes b 4 I eat and 2 hours after.
highlandcitygirl replied November 12, 2008 10:50 PM thank you, i do have insurance i didn't know a dr. could write a presciption for the strips. and i had no idea when and how many times to test.
sexyswamprat replied November 13, 2008 12:59 AM I would check with your insurance company and make sure they cover them, and find out how much they would be. I didn't insurance would cover them either. It just hit me one day when I couldn't afford the strips. I called them the next day and sure enough. I was so happy. Of course it's always better to pay 20 for 100 than 98 for 100.
caspersmama replied November 14, 2008 3:01 PM My insurance pays for everything. the strips, lancets, and alcohol swaps. But the swaps are cheaper at wal mart for the equate brand than my co pay. But if you do not ask you will not know who pays for what. LOL |

Deleted User replied November 14, 2008 1:44 AM Misery, you don't need to explain, it's a personal choice whether you post or not. I don't because I like to keep that to myself for the most part. Good luck with your control!!!
caspersmama replied November 14, 2008 3:13 PM Exactly, this was always suposed to be a voluntary thing and only when you wanted too. I do not post everyday just when I feel like it. We should only use these numbers to see how others are doing not to judge or feel sorry for ourselves if our numbers are not the same. Because everyone's numbers are going to be different even if we ate and took the same meds. But I will tell you all I have lost another pound. So since last week I have lost 11 pounds being off of my insulin. I love it. My stomach is actually getting smaller. I now only look 6 months pregnant instead of 9. LOL

Two painful feet replied November 27, 2008 6:41 AM Hi! I also have gastroparesis caused from polio in 1948. I was diagnosed with this in 1993. I now have a g-tube for the days I'm too sick to eat. My blood sugars have never been between 80 & 130. I think it is because my food sits for so long. Last time I was tested food sat in my stomach 18hrs. I'm very sick 24/7 so not sure how this is going to effect things I have only been a diabetic for 2mths.

Then my nurse from my Insurance told me to check with my Doctor to see how much I should check it because she only cares about my fasting blood sugar, and she said I might be testing to much. They pay for my strips,
caspersmama replied November 16, 2008 2:41 PM I have never heard of testing too much. what is too much. I just want to know how I am doing during the day. My strips say 4 times a day which is 120 a month but I get 200 at a time for extra testing so I do. I test in the morning, then after breakfast. Today is a GREAT DAY! I take 1000mg Metformin X2 Daily, 4mg Avandia, Lantus 10Units AM-15 Units PM & Humalog 10 Units w/Breakfast, 8 Untis w/Lunch & 7 Units w/Dinner. This is constantly changing as I call the nurse on Mondays and Thursdays to report sugars and change doses as needed.(And this is only for the diabetes...add in another 8 meds for other conditions and even I get confused) Just changed from 14 Units Lantus PM & 8 Units Humalog w/ Dinner to new schedule. SO here are my numbers.
fun2u2007 replied November 17, 2008 10:43 PM Does your Doctor have samples he could give you to help offset the cost? My Doctor gives me samples of Januvia because it costs me $25.00/month.
caspersmama replied November 17, 2008 11:11 PM Before I try a new medicine, if he has it, my doctor will give me samples to try to see how it does. I also am taking a blood pressure medicine my insurance will not pay for without documentation. So for the past 4 months he has been giving me the samples to take. Since I see him every month for pain meds I just pick up some more samples. But it is working so he does not mind. Check and see if doctor has any, Usually if they have them they will let you try to see if it works. Especially now since the economy is so bad.
BeckyJ replied November 19, 2008 5:04 PM Thank you for all you advice. I am very thankful for the Dr's that I work with in that they will provide me with samples (When they can) However in a city that has only 3 Endocronologist the sample choices are kinda low and don't cover test strips. I do get my Avandia and some of my other meds as samples and with the Medikan card my other prescriptions are covered but not the testing supplies. I have been looking into mail order companies after speaking with everyone and hope that that helps. Will let you know. Worse they can do is say no right? :)
caspersmama replied November 20, 2008 12:47 AM Also check on Ebay. Sometimes they have really good prices for strips. They have a section just for diabetic stuff. |

Mine are horrible today and I feel it. 61 at 6am, insulin shot then dropped to 39 at 11am. Orange juice and glucose brought it up to 65. 2 hours after eating it was at 58. I just want to cry. Sick all day and so weak. Just took last insulin shot, maybe it will come up after the shot and eating again.
