I have the same problem. I only test at 4 am and it varies always between 120 and 160. I was told by a co worker that it all depends on what and how late you eat. One day I tested at 4pm and was suprised to see it below 100. I was in the 120's for about 2 weeks until I ate some cheese cake and this morning it was 152. I'm 70 yrs young and I guess it is hard to change bad habits but I am trying and will succeed. Don't give up you will find ways to keep it down.

If possible, try to eat and test around the same time everyday. It will help to get your system on a schedule, then you'll learn to recognize at what times of the day you go high or low and why. As Nick said, eventually you will figure it out.

Like James responded to your question yesterday, it seems you're getting the morning "dump". Eight hours (during sleep) is a long time for a diabetic to go without food and you're manufacturing glucose to prevent a dangerous low. Sometimes for me eating a small good protein snack before bed lessens or prevents this because your body has something to work on overnight. If that doesn't work out, try eating something first thing (like an apple), that way you're bringing that high number down, so instead of going from 100 to 117 at lunch, you'd go from maybe 80-90. Eventually though, you will find the right combinations and timing. Sure wish I could eat honey chicken and taters and stay under 120!
