It is second nature to check my levels since I have had diabetes for several years. I test four times a day, more if I need feedback. I started out when diagnosed by making it a habit and it has served me well. I don't forget to test, sometimes I will forget pre meal meds but not very often! You might try whenever you choose your meal or prepare it test as soon as you do that. I have to take one of my meds immediately before eating so it doesn't cause nausea. Try different methods, you will find one that works for you and your situation. Good luck!

I had notes hanging at home, in the car and above my desk. After a few weeks I started remembering on my own. Now I don't need the reminders at all.

I forget all the time too! Do you have a pump? Mine has an option (like others have said) to have an alarm to remind you. I know I am supposed to do it before I eat, but that does not always happen…

Maybe you could get a inexpensive watch and set that. I know most people don't wear them anymore but it may help.

I'm thinking you are not type 1, insulin dependent, as you would have to check your bg numbers in order to know how much insulin to take through out the day. I can only say, try to think of wht your day is like, and then plan the checks according to the days events, if you are type 2. Once you get your self on a regular routin it will be second nature.

This is so true. Lately I've been considering deactivating my alarms because I test basically the same time every day. But there have been times when I too busy to test right away, and that's where the snooze on my cell alarms come in handy.

I use a small notebook and remind myself with times to take my blood glucose like 2 hrs after eating. before each meal and at bedtime. Many times I have to check more esp if i get loe readings and have to check every 15 min uuntil I get reading within my limits.

My daughter (10-yrs old) and my husband are my reminders. My daughter likes to watch my meter and try to guess what my number will be. She thinks it's a game, so it makes it easy for her to remind me to test. My husband will remind me if he hasn't noticed me testing after we've eaten. But after doing it 5 times a day for 12 years, it is sort of programmed into my brain now! It's just a "habit" now…

I would set the alarm on my phone for afternoon meds and night meds and for checking my BG. The problem was I had to set it all the time. I only have to check BG once a day or unless I feel my BG is too high or low.
If you have to check after every meal, set your phone alarm for 11/2 or 2hours after you eat.

Check our what? LOL time to do that, oops no time to get breakfast then meds wait 1.5 or 2 hours and check again. Dang I wish I would remember too. Maybe we should get egg timers and when we start eating set them.

My meter has an alarm feature so I have it set for five minutes before each time that I want to test. I've also set alarms on my cell phone for the same times. This way if I'm busy doing something, I just keep hitting the snooze on my cell to keep it in mind, until I can get around to it.

I keep my meter right next to my computer and I used to keep one near my bed, so they're always near me. I've also gotten into the habit of checking at specific times. If all else fails, get a kitchen alarm and set it for how long you want to wait after eating… anything you can do to kick your memory into working is a benefit!
