Be truthful with yourself, if let's say they did come out with a cure for this could you handle it? I mean I look an you all have had D for wat, twenty years? Thirty? More?! After doin the same pattern over n over n over could you handle getting up in the morning and not checking or even worse, giving yourself a shot?! Would you have to be watched for a while to not go crazy or just give yourself a shot out of a second instinct…?

I would like to think that I could handle it, I did before but I think I would be a bit more cautious on what I eat and how I take care of myself.

It would be great and no i am not attached to insulin shots. i would chek blood sugars just to determine if the treatment was working.

I probably would too. Maybe even do it every six months or so to make sure it's still working.

You know, I don't know why, maybe it's because its all I've known my whole life, I couldn't throw it out. I'd still b counting carbs, id still b thinking, eat here or at school? Which one is more healthy? Everytime I got in a car, I would look or my purse and then freak out if I didn't see it. You all make it seem so easy, if the cure presented itself, you would take it and not look back. I would take it, but I would look back. alot. That cure would make me the happiest person, but it would make me super frightened too.

I've been T1 for 26yrs. and would love to not have to take insulin anymore. But thinking about your proposal had me considering that I would have to catch myself from reaching for my pump as I'm eating to take my insulin, or reaching for my meter to check what my bg is (this would be the harder of the two habits to break because I am curious by nature and would just want to know to compare it to how I'm feeling and what I'm doing).
I did, and occasionally still do have a tendency to temporarily "forget" I'm diabetic and that I need to take insulin every time I put something in my mouth, weird I know. Considering how vocal I am, with everyone that has ever met me, about my having diabetes; and that whenever I think about food I always think about how much insulin I have to take to eat it.
I think I would take some getting used to (not that it would take that long I'm sure), to not constantly think about what my blood sugar is at, or consider what I'm going to eat or what I'm going to do and how that will possibly affect my blood sugar and be prepared, or who I'm going to be interacting with and how I may react to their mental or emotional attitude or energy level, etc, etc.
Interesting proposal. I'll definitely be thinking on this for awhile.
Thank you for posting this… -

Only 6 months for me I definitely could go back I always was healthy and made wise choices, but would love go indulge in a free for all I can eat whatever I want meal and foods for a few days. Puffed cheetos and pizza would be on the List and let's not forget 1/2 of a sweet juicy watermelon. LOL this was great!

If I was cured tomorrow, I'd toss all the crap I have that deals with diabetes and be done with it… then I'd go find someplace serving really decadent chocolate desserts and EAT!!!

I'll jump on the bandwagon for a bit! For me it would be vanilla cupcakes with real chocolate frosting. Ummm…my mouth is watering just thinking about them!

I could handle not having to test and take insulin, but given what I learned I'd definitely continue to eat healthier, exercise and take certain supplements.

Raven, being a type II, insulin dependent diabetic, I would find it both strange and good not to live on a strict schedule of testing and shots (2 each morning and night). It would not take me long to break that part of the habit.

My life was very fulfilling before I had diabetes. I certainly would not have any problem leaving it behind. I would certainly be a lot more health conscious than I was previously, but getting older probably would have made me more interested anyway.

I've been type 2 since 2003. I wouldn't change very much about how I eat, but I wouldn't miss not having D. Since I don't take meds or use injections, I'd just have to continue to be careful that my BG was ok because of the other health ramifications of high or low BGs.

I had taken meds for 15 yrs for diabetes, 11 of them oral meds and 4 yrs injections. I no longer take meds for diabetes as of Feb last yr so I don't miss taking the meds AT ALL! And I think I could easily adjust to no longer needing to poke my finger when I get up. So YES I think I could handle it.
