Hi I was taking my Lantus only at night, but about a week ago right aboout the end of the 24 hr. Period my basal would be so weak that I would spike up to 50-70 numbers. For the last 2 days my D nurse started trying it out where I take 1/2 at 7:30 pm and again at 7:30 am, my numbers are still higher than I want them to be so am trying to slowly work into this. Doing it this way means you are overlapping your insulin which in my case we had decided I need something working for me constantly. Are you a T1?

Years ago, when I was put on Lantus it was in the morning, but I had problems with it. The dr changed it to just before bed time and it worked out fine, I was also on other insulin as well.

I split my dose and take half when I wake up and half when it's bed time. No problem!

I used to do the same before I went on the pump. It worked better that way.

When I was on MDI of Lantus and Novolog, my endo changed the time of day for my Lantus shot (14u) from evening to morning because I had been experiencing serious early morning low BG's. It did help me (she explained that though Lantus is a 24 hour insulin, it is slightly stronger after initially taking it.) I eventually went on an insulin pump last August and no longer use Lantus.

Yes, I was told this about Lantus as well. Which is why I have to be very careful about what I eat/drink as the day goes further along. And also why I take mine basically the same time every day, so there aren't any gaps between doses.

I split my Lantus 50/50 because 1) it is a large number of units 110 a day 2) This way it is constant through out the day.

Yes I do. But I'm on slow-acting so that's my only dose for the day. BTW: You don't have to be shy with us, we're a friendly bunch.

Once my dosage leveled out at 80 units my CDE had me split it into 2 shots one in the morning and one 12 hours later, this way it is in your system all day.
