Midnights Mom replied November 6, 2008 1:58 PM Throughout the whole campaigning process, I found that BOTH the candidates resorted to unprofessional tactics, and therefore I do not like either of them. My biggest fear is what will happen if America pulls out of the Middle East, how soon will we be attacked once more? I believe our presence in the Middle East is a deterrent to those who may begin another uprising against us. Also, I believe that our military soldiers know the risks that they are taking being in the Middle East, and that they believe that their presence is needed there in order to maintain the American freedom that many of us take for granted.
SteveM replied November 7, 2008 7:11 PM John, I don't know what bible you read - whether you are Jewish, Muslim or something else doesn't matter. Obama is a Christian who believes we each have a right to worship as each of us choose.
Lee Ann replied November 7, 2008 7:57 PM I don't understand why there is even a discussion about what Obama does or doesn't believe in. Wasn't this country founded by people who were being religiously persecuted? Too many people have become the exact thing our founders fought against. To me, that is absolutely one of the most disheartening things I've witnessed regarding this past election. Our country is in sad, sad shape with so much intolerance. It sickens me.
morris.js replied November 7, 2008 8:40 PM Last edited 12 months ago See above.
Lee Ann replied November 7, 2008 8:49 PM It was W who got us into this mess to start with, and I didn't see conservatives questioning his lack of military experience.
morris.js replied November 7, 2008 8:59 PM Last edited 12 months ago See above.
kdroberts replied November 7, 2008 9:12 PM On the military service issue, is it really that big of a problem? As far as I know, none of the UK Prime Ministers in the last 50 years have had active military service. A couple in the 60's were in world war 2 but I don't think they were really too much involved in the actual fighting. I don't believe that the British armed forces have been badly run overall. Maybe it's not such a bad thing Obama has no military experience?
Lee Ann replied November 7, 2008 9:49 PM Last edited about 1 year ago morris.js, I'm just pointing out how I see a lot of double standards here. People are criticizing Obama for this, that and the other, but I think it's a safe assumption those same people chose W, probably both times too. If people are going to offer criticism about Obama, which seems unfounded to start with since he isn't even President yet, I would just like those people to consider whether or not they're letting other biases interfere with making valid criticisms. Saying, 'you can't bring that up because that's not what this discussion is about' is just an avoidance technique.
Anonymous replied March 5, 2009 3:54 PM It has always been wars and hard times there will be more to come after we get out of this mess and will get out of it ,there will be good times again. But this is life since the begining of time we have to keep faith do not lose sight of what is really important. These are the times to help each other pray for all and do our best to be happy. And work to stay healthy control diabetes and all of our other health issues. |

Jh862 replied November 5, 2008 10:20 PM Last edited about 1 year ago As Pres-Elect, I will support him and agree with others, that I hope he keeps a few of the promises. But I voted for McCain. A person who both in IL and in the US Senate failed to vote over 100 times in each place bothers me. His job is to vote on bills to support his constituents, yet he chose not to take sides. I also watched him on Oprah prior to his bid for the presidency. He said he wanted his girls to grow up in Chicago. Because of that, he flew to DC after they went to bed on Monday, then home on Thursday. Makes me wonder if they will move to DC now or if he'll consider the presidency a part-time job too. Sorry, I don't trust the guy. I'm originally from central IL and I rarely trust any politician from the Chicago area. I really hope I'm wrong and he will do a wonderful job. I'd gladly eat my words!

LadyDi replied November 29, 2008 5:16 AM Last edited 11 months ago Amen, Amy! He's obviously a brilliant man and one who intends to (and has thus far) reach across party lines to actuallly be the leader for all of us. He's at least willing to listen to and consider other points of view and to utilize the experience and expertise of those he feels will be best for his administration and our country. He didn't win this election without being the one most people wanted as our incoming President. I pray that others will at least watch and listen and give him a chance before condemning him. He has a long, hard road ahead of him, but he's already off and running. We need to realize that problems of the magnitude that we now have are not going to be solved overnight or in the immediate future. I applaud President Bush for his spirit of cooperation during this transition period thus far. He has shown real class. And, folks, Amy is right about the issue of health insurance. Something has to be done and as quickly as possible. I think Obama might just surprise a lot of you nay sayers. |

On the one hand, I am heartened to see that Americans in general are able to look beyond the color of someone's skin. I found Obama's acceptance speech to be well-crafted, drawing on some of the more positive associations most of us have with President Lincoln as well as the realism that change will not happen overnight (nor will it happen if we do not make it happen).

Lee Ann replied November 6, 2008 11:39 PM It's almost like you're suggesting there's actually been a president that has actually come through and kept all his promises. Also, whether or not a president is able to keep promises is hardly solely up to him. We don't live under a monarchy or dictatorship last I checked. Also also, let's not forget what a pathetic mire our country is in and how soiled our international reputation is now after the last 8 years of Republican leadership. Also, also also, it took current Republican leadership a few years to drive the country into this swampy ditch, so it's going to take some time to undo that damage.
LadyDi replied November 29, 2008 5:25 AM You are SO right! And let's remember too that he is not the one and only peson making decisions and causing things to either happen or not happen. No president past or present has done all he promised or even all he hoped and planned to do. Sometimes that is because he didn't do the job. Sometimes not.

Well, the health care issue does bother me. If he wants to go the Canadian route, I hope no one here evr needs a heart transplant! You will be told the following: good news, we have a heart for you. Bad news, it will take 5 years to give it to you! I really do not see what anyone could do for the insurance problems of this country. there are too many of us who do not have insurance and pre-existing conditions. Yup, wants to medicare reforms, good ! but I am too young, so where does that leave me? Those of us with cronic conditions will always have a problem with higher premiums. I wish the ADA would come out with something for us to get supplies easier for the ones that do not have insurance. But money talks.
caspersmama replied November 7, 2008 2:49 PM Under Obamas plan, those they do not have insurance will be offered insurance at the preminums the federal employees get. Which believe me is so cheap. I for one am anxious to get it going. My daughter is 23 and needs it. And for those of us that have insurance he wants to get the premiums lowered. Which would be great! I am a full supporter of the President-elect and can not wait till he takes office.

After reading all the posts today I have a comment. what all of us are forgetting( Democrat or Republican) is that President -elect Obama does not take over till Jan 20, 2009. This country is in sad sad shape now. the past 8 years is under President Bush. Obama cannot do anything till he takes office. Obama had a press conference today and talk about what he wants to do but still cannot do it now. As far as the military experience. Did Bush have any? That was one of the reason why Obama chose Biden for his military dealings. Obama is smart enough to put together a smart cabinet that will help him figure out this mess we are in.

tickles1244 replied February 9, 2009 1:33 AM This is truely my last comment on this then go on with my health concerns..President Obama is a Man not a God not a fixerupper, He can only do what his cabinet and Co-constituents allow, He's not a miracle maker and what has been done to this country was not his making but his burden..So I pray to God to keep him strong, because He needs all the people of this United State to be his back. |

Last edited 8 months ago There was a piece on CanadaAM this morning on how much grey hair has developed since he took office. Talk about stress! Let' hope he stays healthy.
Sheryl replied March 6, 2009 5:29 AM I hope so too!
Deleted User replied March 9, 2009 9:26 AM My only question is, what about the economy? The first task he was going to tackle, seems to be the biggest problems, and yeah, little things get lead to big, but we need the jobs now, the money now, help to keep homes now. I know he is trying but the order is all wrong.
Blooter replied March 10, 2009 3:58 AM Littlemarm you seem to be quite critical of our new president....what are you doing to help?
Sheryl replied March 10, 2009 4:32 PM Some people have the impression that it's the Presidents job to give us jobs, money and save us from our own selves. The greed, buying more then one could afford, bad banking practices all have to be corrected and it's going to be painful.
Blooter replied March 11, 2009 1:30 AM Sheryl you are so right, it is going to take the American people to wake up and realize they can make it without a handout from the government. We won't be able to have all we want but we do what we have to do to get ourselves through this crisis and quit blaming everyone else for problems that we have created for ourselves. |

Last edited 4 months ago It is now the middle of June,09. He is no longer Present Elect . He is THE BIG GUY and over the past few months he has frightened me terribly. His health care program will surely limit the quality and accessibility of services. We are looking at Socialized Medical Care which hasn't worked in England,Canada or other Socialized "democacies'.Non -medical entities will be deciding what servicies we will receive as opposed to Health Care Professionals. I have little confidence in his plans for health care revision and I'm terrified of his other plans. We are on the verge of loosing America as our Fouding Fathers envisioned it. |

Truthfully I never believe anything out of a politicians mouth. I only wanted to vote in hopes of getting a women in as president. I think this country needs more compassionate people running it and I thought a women might do the trick. But I'm young and that's only my opinion.
mike67 replied September 22, 2009 4:57 PM hey , i agree that a woman would be great for our country, now that we have obama lets work with him to stop the billion dollars insurance companys from controlling our healthcare and make healthcare a right not a privledge for the rich in america. m.b. |

Last edited about 1 month ago All Presidents are a combination of good and bad. Who in their right mind would really want this job? They go into office because they want to help the American people. They are politicians whether they are Democrats or Republicans. What everyone forgets, it is the Senate and Congress which controls our country. I think Obama, like most Presidents, go into the office with a lot of idealist ways of thinking. But that is because they haven't been there before. Our daily environment may change a lot of their way of thinking....for instance, now Obama is leaning more towards McCain's campaign promises for healthcare. To get a grasp on all of the issues, you must watch and keep up with things on a daily basis. It has always been very difficult to make everyone happy and there have to be compromises. As for Obama's aging, yes, I think he is wondering "why did I do this to myself." But I think he has the level-headedness to understand he has to win over the Senate and the Congress. I think it is unjust to blame any one President for something because most times issues they get passed do not come into effect until after they leave office. The one thing that worries me about the healthcare plan....NOTHING is free! Obama promised "no new taxes" but we have already had numerous increases in taxes that we already pay and if the healthcare plan is passed, you can bet other things will increase, i.e., dollar increase in cigarette taxes, additional taxes on sodas, increase taxes on food. The country just doesn't have money to pay for what we already are committed to. I SAY PRAY FOR OUR PRESIDENT AND ELECTED OFFICIALS TO MAKE THE BEST DECISION FOR EVERYONE; AND, PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY AND SERVICEMEN. LET GOD BE IN CONTROL AND WE WILL BE ALRIGHT. |
