I won't be voting, because I can't. I did look into all the policies though and with McCain's I would be financially worse off at the end of the year. I couldn't really tell either way about Obama's. My opinion is that unfortunately neither one is very good. |

I already voted. I couldn't say one was better than the other so I voted party. I'm a Republican. I would have voted Democrat if I thought he was any better than McCain. They both had good and bad points. IMHO |

I'm not American, so no. I did vote in the Canadian election though (in the advance poll due to stupid scheduling of the election date so that it was on a Jewish holiday). |

yes, i voted this morning. voted my party. i don,t get fired up about anyt hing a politicion says. some changes are good and some are bad. we never know how things will turn out.
kdroberts replied November 4, 2008 7:20 PM I always find the "vote for my party" interesting. I never understood it because isn't "your party" the one who's candidate you most align with rather than a set in stone thing where you vote even though you agree with nothing they are offering?

I already voted a week ago. For me and my family Obamas healthcare plan looks the best for us. My 23 year old daughter may finally be able to afford healthcare and my hubby and me can keep ours through his employer. McCain's 5,000 dollar plan would not even cover me with all of my pre existing conditions. So not to be too political, I think Obama's would be the better choice. Just remember everyone to VOTE.
kdroberts replied November 4, 2008 7:40 PM With McCain's plan you wouldn't see any change in coverage if you get your insurance through an employer. The biggest difference and where the $5,000 comes in is how the reporting changes. The plan states that the premium the employer pays gets added into the employees paycheck as earned income. So, say you earn $50,000 and your employer pays $6,000 towards your yearly insurance premium, your W-2 will show you earned $56,000 rather than $50,000. The $5,000 gets applied to that which will bring it down to $51,000 so you would be paying tax on an extra $1,000. If your employer doesn't cover much towards your premium or you have a low cost insurance plan you might end up better off as it could bring your taxable income down. If you have a high priced insurance plan or your employer pays a lot towards it then you may be worse off.
Gabby replied November 4, 2008 7:46 PM The one downfall of Obama's plan is that pre-existing conditions to be covered are temporary things like pregnanacy. I did not see where chronic illnesses such as diabetes or cancer would be considered either....it is very confusing.
caspersmama replied November 4, 2008 7:48 PM I am not going to get into politics with you or anybody else, I stated that I voted and for who and why. that is all anyone needs to know.
kdroberts replied November 4, 2008 7:59 PM I didn't ask you to. I just posted some info about McCain's healthcare plan. No need to go off on one.
caspersmama replied November 4, 2008 10:29 PM I find it very funny you have such strong opinions on candidates but you are not voting. But whatever. I have had such a great day not even you is going to spoil it. Have a great night KD
Gabby replied November 4, 2008 11:30 PM KD is not a US citizen. A lot of people from other countries are watching very closely what is happening here. I have an online friend in the UK, and we talk polotics all the time. I find him very refreshing. It's good to see it from a different point of view sometimes.
sparkysmom replied November 4, 2008 11:31 PM I agree. It is good to know others think of our system. |

Last edited about 1 year ago I voted early here, last week. I have to say that neither candidate does much for me. I only claim a party because if I don't, I cannot vote in the primaries here in Florida. But I don't just vote any party lines.
sparkysmom replied November 4, 2008 8:13 PM A vote is never "cast away". Maybe if enough people did that our leaders would hear.
Gabby replied November 4, 2008 8:18 PM I agree. I have a very dear friend who keeps telling me I threw away my vote. I just remind her that the only wasted vote is one that my heart could not tolerate. I have done this for years now it seems. I keep hoping enough people will do the same, and think outside the box. We keep choosing the same people and hope we get a differnt result. This election was one where the "underdogs" were in it a lot longer than I have seen in a long time. So maybe we are getting close to really getting some new blood in the white house. It won't be this election, but you can bet it will be the next one if things go south. We are tired of being beat up by our government, it's time we made a stand.
Frustrated mom replied November 4, 2008 8:55 PM You gave me an idea....I am at a loss on who to vote for and I think you have a very good point...
Gabby replied November 4, 2008 8:59 PM I don't want to add to the political mayhem, but if you want some websites to visit and places to get involved in other parties, just drop me a note and I will be glad to hook you up with some. From there, the research is up to you. It takes more research on the other candidates, because the media won't cover them. It is worth the effort. And even if it doesn't help you this election, you can be getting involved for the next.
kdroberts replied November 4, 2008 9:13 PM You did the right thing. There is absolutely no point in voting for somebody because you don't like their opponent. A vote is a positive thing, either give it to somebody you support or withhold it. Neither is wasted. |
Don't forget to vote. It's more important now than ever.
With regards to healthcare, I read in the Nov. 3 issue of Newsweek that McCain's plan will cost over a trillion dollars more than Obama's plan, and won't do a very good job providing coverage for people with "pre-existing conditions" like diabetes (!)
I couldn't find it online, but there's a special Newsweek pullout section that details the candidates' plans, with the headline "Cures for the Health-Care Headache."
