Like "Ask your doctor to refer you to a registered dietician or a local diabetes center (preferably the latter, if your community has one). When I was diagnosed, my doctor immediately referred me to the diabetes center at a local hospital where I had education sessions, met with a nutritionist, nurse practitioner, and a support group. It set me on the right path. The 'education', though, is lifelong. I'm still learning and trying to understand what's going on with my pancreas, my levels, etc. etc. etc. And make sure to take your metformin WITH your meals. I'm on it too, and had stomach problems till I started taking it w/ food. (I think of it as burying the pill so it can't mess with me! lol ) Good luck and welcome to DC!"
