Like "there has been some research lately (I think it was from a country with a socialist medical system-- possibly Canada or England) that questioned the need for diabetics that are not on Insulin or oral meds that actually cause low blood sugars.... I think that the findings said it really didn't make much difference. However from most people's experience it does make a difference and you should be testing.
