Like "Don't take Steel Magnolias as gospel, it's a pretty bad portrayal of diabetes. Realistically being diabetic and pregnant all depends on how well you control your blood sugar. The risk is far, far greater to the baby than to the mother. If you can keep very tight control, your doctor will likely want very tight control as close to normal as you can get, then you should be OK. I would say that 24 is kind of young and it will be hard to manage diabetes with everything associated with pregnancy. Since you have only started to manage your diabetes I would recommend you put it off for a few years and really get a grip on your diabetes so you will have a much easier time controlling it when you are pregnant."
