Like "Alcohol on it's own will not raise blood sugar, it's the carbs in the drink that do. For instance, something like vodka or scotch will lower blood sugar for a good number of hours but beer has carbs in it so the carbs will raise blood sugar in the short term but the alcohol can lower blood sugar several hours later. The raise in blood sugar is not really any different to eating the same amount of carbs in any food. I've never heard of a doctor recommending diabetics not to drink, I have heard them recommend limiting alcoholic intake to a couple of drinks at a time a couple of times a week. Other health factors will also play a role."
