Cheddar Fondue

You might think that fondue is a delicacy you have to spend hundreds of dollars on at a fancy restaurant. Think again. This fondue recipe makes it easy and fun to make, and perfect for a snack, main course and everything in between.

Cheddar Fondue
  • 1/4 cup butter

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, optional

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground mustard

  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1-1/2 cups milk

  • 2 cups (8 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese

  • Bread cubes, ham cubes, Johnsonville┬« Original Summer Sausage and or broccoli florets

  1. In a small saucepan, melt butter; stir in flour, salt if desired, mustard, pepper and Worcestershire sauce until smooth. Gradually add milk. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Reduce heat. Add the cheese; cook and stir until cheese is melted.

  2. Transfer to a fondue pot or 1-1/2-qt. slow cooker; keep warm. Serve with bread, ham, sausage and/or broccoli.

This is a good recipe with variations to use to keep the carbs down. If you dont use regular milk, you can keep the carbs down a LOT and not have to use a thickener like flour which Ii would never use in the first place. I would sub almond milk because it has NO milk sugar at the rate of 8-12 carbs of lactose (milk sugar per 8 ounces or 1 cup) that I do NOT need to eat at all. All the other ingredients are very low sugar/carb so I can work this into my plan.

Why don't all recipes record the number of servings per recipe? I appreciate the other nutrition info but also need the additional. For me this would could literally be a lifesaver. Thank you!
