3 lbs. spareribs or country style ribs
1 1/2 tsp salt (may omit)
1/4 tsp pepper
1 (32 oz.) jar sauerkraut, undrained
1/4 cup water
2 Tbsp brown sugar
2 Tart apples, peeled and chopped
1 small onion, chopped
Heat oven to 450 degrees. Cut ribs into serving size pieces. Place in ungreased 13 X 9 inch pan; sprinkle with salt (if using) and pepper. Bake at 450 degrees for 20 minutes.
Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees. Remove ribs from pan; drain drippings from pan. In same pan, combine sauerkraut and remaining ingredients; spread evenly over bottom of pan. Arrange ribs on top of the sauerkraut mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until ribs are tender, stirring occasionally. Makes 6 servings.
