5 egg whites , at room temperature
1/8 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1/4 cup confectioners sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp ground walnuts
1 cup frozen whipped topping , thawed
8 fresh large strawberries , sliced, for garnish
1 cooking spray
Preheat the oven to 275°F.
Cover baking sheet with parchment paper and coat parchment paper with cooking spray.
In large bowl, with electric mixer on high speed, beat egg whites and salt until soft peaks form.
Gradually sprinkle in cream of tartar and then confectioner's sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add vanilla extract and beat until shiny peaks form. Fold in walnuts.
Form mixture into a 7" circle on the parchment paper. Bake for 1 hour, or until golden color.
Turn off oven and let meringue cool with oven door open.
Remove from parchment to serving platter or store in airtight container
