IRENE'S GOULASH ITALIANO AKA Mixed Mess

Ingredients
  • 1 lb. 7 percent fat ground beef

  • 1 medium to large onion, chopped

  • 1 clove garlic, chopped

  • 2 8-oz cans tomato sauce

  • 1 6-oz can tomato paste

  • 1 16-oz can stewed tomatoes

  • 1/2 to 1 tsp oregano

  • 1/2 to 1 tsp sweet basil

  • 1+1/2 lbs frozen mixed vegetables, thawed

  • 1 lb macaroni or other pasta, cooked al dente

  • Parmesan cheese, if desired*

Directions
  1. Cook together meat, onion and garlic. Add next 6 ingredients, bring to a boil, then simmer 20-30 minutes. Add pasta and stir.

  2. Serve with cheese sprinkled on top.

  3. If you're really in a hurry, you can cheat by substituting 1 can or jar of premade spaghetti sauce instead of tomato sauce, tomato paste, stewed tomatoes, oregano and basil.
