By Avera

This savory pie has broccoli, cheese, and ham but only 4 grams of carbs per serving!

  • 4 eggs

  • 1/2 cup cream

  • 1 cup chopped broccoli — (or more)

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese — or other type

  • 1/2 cup chopped ham — or crumbled bacon

  • 1/3 cup onion — chopped fine

  1. Combine all ingredients and toss. Pour into 10 inch greased pie pan. Bake for about 40 minutes at 350°F or until knife comes out clean.

  2. I have made this twice, once with shredded mild cheddar and once with crumbled feta. They were both good, but the texture was really nice with the feta, more custardy and less eggy. One of the things I like about it is that you can use frozen broccoli, which I find easier. It only takes about five minutes of prep time to make whole recipe.

This is great!! Half and half or cream is fine in this recipe. The newest research shows that we metabolize fat BETTER than carbs to manage our blood glucose and weight. Glad to see these recipes coming out on this site now. The old low fat, high carb stuff was wrong, wrong, wrong and when you look at the statistics, the high rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer s and Dementia started rising at the same time. There is a relationship there.

Another suggestion, instead of cream or half and half, would be to use almond milk. Chances are you will not be able to tell the difference from dairy milk, the calorie count will be lower, and the fat will be lower. I use almond milk in pancakes, in oatmeal breakfast bars (vegan recipe) and in other recipes in place of dairy milk and to date, no one tasting the various dishes has caught on it's not made with cow milk!

This looks so awesome. Good thing I ate already. I would use turkey bacon instead of the ham and probably light cream. It does have a lot of sodium but I worry more about the carbs and sugars.

Broccoli is a good choice, but I would look for a low-fat cheese to reduce the calories and fat content. Also, half-n-half could be substituted for the cream.

Made this yesterday, precooked broccoli for judt a few minutes, added on top 2 thin sliced tomatoes en some dried mediterenian herbs to the cream-egg mix. It was delicious, we eat often broccoli. This is a nice change
