Ever try to buy all the veggies the doctor tells you to eat? If I do that I won't be able to buy gas to get to work. Yes diet works for the affulent, blue collar people have to eat what they can afford to buy.

The key is wanting to do it !
A little hard at first, but worth it in the long run !

Hi Dwight, Jocelyn and Rabb,

Since I live in Canada, the meter I use is calibrated to the international standard rather than the US standard. What you see on the meter is 4.5 mml/l. Normal non diabetic range is 3.8 mml/l – 5.5 mml/l.

I prefer the US standard but meters calibrated to mg/dl are not available as an option in Canada (and most of the rest of the world). To convert from one standard to the other multiply or divide by 18.
Jocelyn, My philosophy is to personally optimize the diet based on sound nutrition principles. It is difficult and requires a lot more effort than the simplified exchanges system recommended by ADA. ADA’s methods and recommendations were not keeping my blood glucose controlled. (250 mg/dl plus on a US meter with heavy dose of metformin.)
My philosophy includes taking ownership of the problem and becoming a well informed medical self advocate so I searched out everything I could find in the library and the internet. I compared the good and the flaws of all the different approaches to diet I could find. In that process I have found what works and have stayed in non-diabetic healthy range ever since. Part of my philosophy is also to share what I had to learn with anyone who needs it without making it about making money. My philosophy also includes not becoming stuck in one mode. Too many of the sites I look at are pushing one narrow focus such as Glycemic Index, Low Carb, Omega 3, Vegan, etc., etc. My approach is to take the best of all the other approaches and look for the flaw then try to reconcile and include the best from each.
Dwight, The URL is

Toma, I too am concerned about the 45 blood glucose reading. I would be flat on my face if mine were that low and I have very well controlled readings. My biggest problem with the video was it did not finish, so I did not get the URL for your website. I would appreciate your giving it in a comment here on the site. Thanks
