Starchy veggies are things like potatoes, yes. But also corn, peas and beets. However, sweet potatoes (yams) are usually lower in the glycemic index and you are safer to eat those.

Good carbs are ones that are whole grains, vegetables or beans. Things that are on the lower end of the glycemic index are also good, such as strawberries. Bad carbs are things that are simple sugars such as starchy veggies, pastas and some fruits such as bananas or juices. Those can spike your levels.

Dear Amy: I have Diabetes Type II and have never been told how to count calories or what types of things I can or cannot have. Help. I have been to a Nutrtionist who talks about exchanges which makes absolutely no sense to me. Can you help me?

We all learn to count carbs but this one is particularly helpful in showing newbies what 30g of carbs actually looks like! Very valuable! And didnt you love the kitchen? lol

You will need to contact John Crowley who is in your friends list. Click on his name and it will take you to his profile and beside his picture youll see Send a Message. Click on that. He will enable you to correct your name. Hope this helps!
