FYI - You can get almost any glucose meter on the market for free. It's always the test strips that makes the money for the manufacturer - not the meters.

I have tryed several companys but each time I was turned down for a free meter. after 18 years no ins. and still too young for medicade. I will know for sure from doctor next month what I will have to take. learning how to handle this with diet & exericse the ups& downs I want to thank you " Mays "for telling us about the Bayer Meter. I filled it out and they are sending a coupon for a free meter.
It is possible that you may have either a bad batch of strips and \ or a bad meter, your choice seems to be one of personal preference based on financial-economical reasons.
Each meter manufacturer will have meter owners who swear by their device as you do your One Touch meter.
If Bayer manufactured and sold an inferior or defective device, it would be and have been documented somewhere and recalled, everyone at some point and time experiences defective and quality control issues with their products.

I have been testing my blood glucose over 25 years. Two years ago I was offered a lower cost Bayer meter/strips. I tried it and it nearly killed me. My glucose readings would differ from my one touch strips by 100. I called Bayer, they advised I must have gotten a "BAD" batch of strips. Well for 1/2 the price of the cheap bayer strips, I buy one touch strips on eBay ($85 for 200 strips). I'm happy for great deals since I have no insurance.

is there any help getting the strips and pins to go with the metter we have no insurance as of yet.

Sorry Mays, it doesn't work for my situation. I have a medicare advantage program through Kaiser Permanente and the only test strips they stock are the Lifescan One Touch strips. If I get a different meter than one that uses those, I'd have to pay out of pocket for them.

Sorry Mays. I already have a Contour and HATE Liberty Medical. They hounded me and hounded me and hounded me until I lied to them, and said they were spam, and all sors of stuff.
