Exercise is Good for Diabetes

Lack of energy is one of the most common complaints I get from my diabetic patients, but the reason for this tired feeling might surprise you. Remember earlier I discussed how extra sugar is trapped in the blood? You may be feeling tired and hungry because the sugar in your blood simply hasn't been delivered. It has to be absorbed into the cell for you to have energy. Your cells aren't getting energy because the doors are jammed shut and insulin is having a tough time getting them to open and accept the sugar from your blood (insulin resistance). Using your muscles can help that. You see, because they protect us from danger, muscles have a special ability to drawn those unburned sugars into the cell. Imagine there was a fire and you needed to escape, you would have plenty of energy right? Well you can use this to your advantage and the great thing is there doesn't have to be a real fire to do it. The next time you feel tired and hungry check your blood sugar level. If it's 80 or lower, it's time to eat. But if it's 180, you have plenty of fuel in the blood. Don't eat and add more fuel on top of it, burn what's there by going for a walk or by doing some other form of gentle exercise. When the muscles begin to draw these sugars from the blood you will actually feel better. Talk to your doctor and get the okay; then start slowly with a type of activity that you enjoy and suits your lifestyle.

This is a very motivational video. I agree with all that was said. I have been engaging in walking exercise, 2 times a day. Nothing strenuous though. Sometimes I find myself walking fast without even thinking about it. Sometimes I go for a walk just to be out and enjoying the scenery or being around other people engaging in the same thing. I have lost 8lbs in two months, which my doctor says rounds out to be a lb. a week (hey, at least it's something.) I think that if you go about it in a way that isn't just focused on loosing weight, the benefits are long lasting, and easy to achieve. Gradually it will become a part of your lifestyle, without being a chore.

I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS UNDER CONTROL FOR YEARS AND I CAN'T SEEM TO GET ANY HELP. I AM NOT SMART AT ALL IN THIS DEPARTMENT MY SUGAR ARE ABOUT 225/680 EVERYDAY I AM REAL TIRED. ALICE

Its nice to jnow that I dont have to pound on my body to get the same in walking as running. I have a bad back so I cant do much of the stuff I use to be ableto do. Good advice…

There are some really good points in this video one I had discovered on my own with the exercise and blood sugar levels. I had noticed that during my more active times that my levels will be lower and I feel much better, I guess I need to do this on more of a daily bases.

I understand why I'm so tired all the time I thought it was from not eating my three meals aday now I'm thinking it could be from not exercising. I need to get moveing..

This is a little long, but worth the time to watch. I am at the point where activity needs to grow in my schedule, and knowing that if I walk a mile or run a mile I burn the same calories…how cool is that!

Thank you so much. I have asked a dietician and my doc what I should do if my sugars were high and wheter or not to eat,take more meds and said do nothing. I'm glad I'm going to a endocrologist(did I spell that right?).
