Whether right or wrong the last statement in the video made about insulin is in conflict with what my endo said of my treatment. My endo faulted standard methods for treating diabetes that avoid insulin in favor of oral drugs, consequently the pancreas BURNS OUT as mine has. My blood work shows I barely produce enough insulin to be measurable. While we are all different I was very typical 12 years ago when first diagnosed, about 25 pounds overweight, bordeline blood pressure, mildly active, with a variety of food choices. After diagnosis I walked more, stopped smoking, made a conscious effort to watch carbs and watched every year my bg levels and A1C continue to get worse and we just raised the dosage of metformin each time. Finally my primary care doctor as I had no endocrinologist until 2 years ago, put me on a small amount of levemir insulin. I finally demanded to be referred to an endocronologist and only after 6 months of continual monitoring did we establish an insulin/carb formula for basil and bolus doses. My point is simply the video says insulin should be a LAST resort and my endo disagrees and thinks it may in many cases need to be the first thing to aggressively get bg under control. LIKE almost everything I have found in my 12 year journey with diabetes is treatment VARIES greatly and the individual treatment cannot be looped into one thing that works for all.
