Metformin is the first-line drug of choice to treat patients with type 2 diabetes. It is an oral anti-diabetic drug used with a proper diet and exercise and with other medications when needed to control high blood sugar. It works by helping to restore your body's proper response to the insulin your pancreas naturally produces. Metformin decreases the amount of sugar that your liver makes and that your stomach and intestines absorb. It also decreases levels of triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels and prevents cardiovascular complications without increasing weight.

Pros: No bad reactions and keeps my BS down.
Overall: I've been on Metformin for a very long time. Don't remember the first dosage, but I know the Dr. upped me to 1000mg twice a day and kept me on that for several years. He finally added insulin for about 2 yrs. Finally he reduced the Metformin to 500mg twice a day, and kept me on insulin. My numbers are under control.By

Pros: I take this 2x a day and has been working great for me
Cons: As long as I don't cheat I'm fine
Overall: I was taking this 2x a day for about 3 years and was told by my doctor I had beaten it and could go off the medication. Within a year, because I started cheating again, I was re-diagnosed and so taking the medication 2x a day again (500 mg each).By
