The Mayo Clinic Diet

Introduced in 2009, the Mayo Clinic Diet is available as a 254-page book and a logbook to keep track of what you're eating. The diet begins with a two-week period where five unhealthy habits are replaced with healthy habits. The authors project these initial changes will lead to 6 to 10 pounds of weight loss in the first two weeks. The diet emphasizes a food pyramid that has vegetables and fruits as the base and places greater restrictions on carbohydrates, meat, and dairy. Portion control is a key to the diet. Note: over the years many fad diets have promoted themselves as "the Mayo Clinic diet" but were in no way associated with the Mayo Clinic.
