The Biggest Loser Diet

Popularized by the reality television show, the Biggest Loser Diet offers a six-week program to shed pounds, reduce risk of (or control) diabetes, and improve heart health. Of course, the program includes a heavy emphasis on adding exercise. The diet teaches dieters to eat regular meals that emphasize filling calories from fruits, vegetables, lean protein sources, and whole grains; practice portion control; and use a food journal. Every few hours, you're encouraged to consume a fiber- or protein-packed meal or snack to keep hunger pangs at bay. The program can be a little expensive both in buying the books and in purchasing fresh foods that can be more expensive than pre-packed foods. A 2011 U.S. News and World Report comparison ranked The Biggest Loser Diet as the number one diet for people with diabetes.
