Insulin aspart is used to treat type 1 diabetes as well as type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and LADA diabetes. In patients with type 1 diabetes, insulin aspart is used either with another type of insulin or in an external insulin pump. In patients with type 2 diabetes, insulin aspart may be used on its own, with another type of insulin, or with oral medications for diabetes. Insulin aspart is a short-acting, manmade version of human insulin that begins working in about 15 minutes with peak action reached in 45-90 minutes. Insulin aspart works by helping move sugar from the blood into other body tissues where it is used for energy.
