The earliest known record of diabetes was written on 3rd Dynasty Egyptian papyrus by physician Hesy-Ra. It mentions polyuria (frequent urination) as a symptom. Around this time, ancient healers also noted that ants seemed to be attracted to the urine of people who had this disease.
