What's a good cold drink, besides diet soda and water?

Amy Campbell

Hi Patti-cake, Most “regular” and non-diet drinks contain carbohydrate, often in the form of high-fructose corn syrup, cane sugar or fruit juice. While drinking small amounts of these drinks is okay, they can add up in carbohydrate and calories. If you choose not to drink “diet” beverages, or those that are sweetened with non-nutritive sweeteners like aspartame, sucralose or stevia, your choices are somewhat limited. Options include: water, seltzer water or club soda, flavored seltzer water, unsweetened iced tea (black, green, white and herbal teas are good) and unsweetened ice coffee. You can also try diluting a small amount of fruit juice, like cranberry juice, for example, with seltzer water to make a “juice spritzer.” If you use no more than ¼ cup of juice, you’ll consume about 30 calories and 8 grams of carbohydrate (but you’ll need to limit how often you drink this beverage, as, here too, the calories and carbs can add up).

I enjoy Glaceau Vitamin Water Zero — lemonade and Rise orange. The orange has 4 carbs per 16-oz bottle, zero calories. I keep it on my desk and sip throughout the day. Has less than 1% erythritol (natural sweetener) and Truvia. A nice variety of flavors. Also Sobe Lifewater. I get them at Target.

Any thing you buy at a grocery is bad for you. Please stop going to places that sell anything in a bottle it will kill you

i found SPARKING WATER BEVERAGE at Rite Aide which cost only $1.00 for a liter (on sale is $.88) they come in different flavors & the best part it does not have an after taste. How can you go wrong with price, taste with 0 calories & 0 sugar. You will not drink diet soda again. I have tried other brands, Shoprite, shop&stop etc. Nothing taste as good as this one.

During winter I drink an occasional coffee (hot). During summer I drink some diet cola (usually drink only about half of it with a meal, then dump it and fill the cup with chipped ice and then add water. Really cold water is an OK drink for me. During summer, I drinki lots of iced tea—I like green tea best. Doing yard work uses up a lot of tea!

The two drinks that work I enjoy most is iced tea and I keep lemons to juice to make fresh lemonade. For variety i will mash strawberries or other berries and add to the lemonade to have some variety. Iced tea with lemon squeezed in it is another option. I only use equal as a sweetener.

I use Raw Stevia as well. My husband also has stage 4 brain cancer and this is the only one reccomended for him to use. I do give him Poweraide Zero, however.

All depends on how chemical free you want to be. Crystal Light tastes good, but has artificial sweeteners, so it comes down to do you want to use artificial sweeteners. There are some studies that say they trigger some of the same brain responses that sugar does. So some of us avoid them and some don't. Your call.
