AF Retired 462

Am I a diabetic with high triglycerides or a hypertriglyceridemic with diabetes? I have had extremely high tryglicerides since 1992, ranging from 400-2200, no matter my diet. I was diagnosed as type 2 in 2002 and added insulin in 2012.

High triglycerides (blood fats) may be caused by a number of factors, including uncontrolled diabetes, being overweight or obese, an underactive thyroid, kidney problems, too much alcohol and certain medications. It’s possible that you had diabetes prior to your diagnosis in 2002, so it’s a little hard to say which came first. Nevertheless, I’d say you are a person with diabetes and high triglycerides.
