I am a 23-year-old single guy. Recently, I found that I am diabetic and I am very upset. Now I am thinking about my future life. Also I am worrying about marriage. Please suggest how can I plan my life now with diabetes. Is it fine for me to get married?

It’s understandable to be upset after finding out that you have diabetes. However, the good news is that people with diabetes really do live long, healthy lives and there’s no reason to think that you won’t either. Millions of people with diabetes get married, have children, run marathons, travel and more. The best thing you can do for yourself is to learn as much about your diabetes and how to care for it as you can. Ask your doctor for referrals to a dietitian and to a diabetes education program in your community. Look into diabetes support groups, either live or online. Contact your local American Diabetes Association to find out how you can get involved in activities that will connect you to other people who have diabetes. Also, talk with your doctor, diabetes educator or even a mental health specialist about how to best stay healthy for the future, and any special concerns or questions you might have about marriage and children.
