Is there something I can do so my blood sugar doesn't drop too low? I work in a restaurant and I don't always have time to eat the way I should. I just don't have the time to sit and eat, so it has to be something I can do on the run. Yes, we do have fruit and veggies, but I just can't eat like that while I am cooking. I am open to any ideas you may have that will help me with that, plus help with losing some weight.
Try to eat a meal before you start work. This meal should contain carbohydrate, protein and some fat to keep you filled up and prevent your blood glucose from going too low. Possible meal ideas include a hearty bowl of soup made with beans or lentils; a sandwich, yogurt and fruit; a piece of chicken or fish, vegetables and brown rice; scrambled eggs and veggies in a burrito; or even a smoothie made with lowfat milk, fruit and some protein powder. While you’re at work, keep ready-to-eat snacks handy, such as granola or protein bars, small bags of nuts and dried fruit, a slice of whole grain bread with peanut butter, or some cottage cheese and a banana. When you get home from work, eat another light meal or snack before you go to bed. If low blood glucose continues to be an issue for you, however, talk to your healthcare provider about the possibility of reducing the amount of diabetes medication that you take.
