I'm 32 years old and I went for blood work. My sugar came out 198. I was not fasting. Am I a diabetic?
Diabetes can be diagnosed in 4 different ways: 1) by having a fasting blood test, 2) by a 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test, 3) with an A1C test, and 4) by having r a random blood glucose test with results over 200 along with symptoms of diabetes present. The blood test you had was not fasting, nor was it over 200, so it neither confirms nor rules out the diagnosis of diabetes. However, a random blood glucose at 198 is not usual for someone without diabetes. Ask your healthcare provider about ordering further tests to determine if you have diabetes. If your fasting blood glucose is 126 or over AND your A1C is 6.5 % or over then you have diabetes.
