Hello I have type 2 diabetes. I wanted to know if the Mega red capsule is safe to use. I've been taking it for two weeks to get my cholesterol down plus the medication the doctor gave me. The megaRed is 300mg and has krill oil. I heard now that diabetics can't eat shell fish, so what's your opinion on the megaRed softgels? So far, there's no after taste or smell. Thank you for being here, Betty

MegaRed contains krill oil, which is an omega-3 fatty acid supplement made from tiny crustaceans that are similar to shrimp. Omega-3 fatty acids may help to lower triglycerides (blood fats) and cholesterol, and are sometimes taken for other conditions as well, such as high blood pressure and arthritis. Krill oil is generally safe, but too much may interfere with blood clotting, and cause heartburn, nausea and bad breath. Make sure your healthcare provider knows that you are taking this supplement, as it may interact with other medications that you’re taking. Also, in answer to your question, people with diabetes, like anyone else, can eat shellfish as long as they are not allergic to it. Shellfish, such as shrimp, lobster, crab and clams are very low in fat and high in protein, so they can fit into a heart-healthy eating plan.
