Q:

I have arm pain and it tingles in my hand. Also I'm having hip pain, sometimes making it unbearable to walk. Is it a pinched nerve or nerve damage?

Dr. William Sullivan

A:

Arm pain and tingling in the hand can have multiple causes. Possible causes include – carpel tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuropathy or perhaps a pinched nerve in the neck. Carpel tunnel syndrome (related to a pinched nerve in the wrist) is more common among people with diabetes than those without it. Although peripheral neuropathy related to diabetes can occur in the hand, it is important to evaluate it for other causes . Hip pain is often related to bursitis or osteoarthritis and is usually not related to diabetes. I would suggest that you have a complete evaluation by your healthcare provider for your hand and hip symptoms.
