Q:

Other than asking my doctor, is there somewhere that I can find a list of foods to eat and not eat? And if so where do I find it?

A:

You can actually search on the Internet for - lists of foods for people with diabetes . What you’ll likely discover is that the lists contain healthy foods that are good for everyone to eat, not just people with diabetes. There really aren’t “special” foods for people with diabetes. While knowing what to eat is, of course, helpful, you also need to know how much of these foods to eat. This is best determined by meeting with a dietitian. A dietitian will take into account various factors, including your age, gender, activity level, food preferences, work schedule, and any medications that you take. You’re more likely to be successful following a meal plan that is individualized to you than trying to follow a “diet” that you might find on a website. And chances are your insurance or health plan will cover several visits with a dietitian . Ask your physician for a referral to a dietitian in your community.

There are several discussions right now on diabetic connect that feature information on food choices. We are a good resource too.
