Q:

Is it possible for my insulin to be making me tired? I take Lantus Solostar 20 units once a day and it seems like I get physically tired about an hour-and-a-half after taking it.

A:

It’s unlikely that insulin is making you tired. Tiredness or fatigue can occur for many reasons, but in the case of diabetes, it’s most likely due to high or low blood glucose levels. My advice is to check your blood glucose 1 ½ hours or so after taking your insulin. If your glucose is above or below your target, talk to your physician about possibly making an adjustment to your insulin dose. If your blood glucose after taking your insulin is not high or low, then still speak with your physician to find out other possible causes for your fatigue.
